1. Major electives: the <strong>The</strong>atre major must select four electives from the following: any THTR course at the 200 level<br />

or higher; WRTG 215, WRTG 315, and ENGL courses 200 level or higher that qualify as dramatic literature courses.<br />

2. Cognate electives must include two courses in dramatic literature; one <strong>of</strong> these must be ENGL 104.<br />

Intermediate Acting 3 credits<br />

(Prerequisite: THTR 111 with a grade <strong>of</strong><br />

B- or higher) This second in a three-course<br />

sequence builds on the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> the<br />

acting process and focuses on further<br />

exploration <strong>of</strong> internal acting technique.<br />

Stanislavski-based and/or other modern<br />

and contemporary acting systems are<br />

explored through exercises, written analysis,<br />

and scene/monologue study. <strong>The</strong>re is<br />

an emphasis on ensemble acting in the<br />

classroom, rehearsal, and production.<br />

(C)<strong>The</strong>atre History I 3 credits<br />

A chronological study <strong>of</strong> western theatre<br />

from ancient Greek drama to seventeenthcentury<br />

British drama. A selection <strong>of</strong> plays<br />

from representative playwrights will be<br />

read and discussed with an emphasis on<br />

the social, cultural, and theatrical contexts<br />

within which these playwrights lived and<br />

worked.
