HEALTH ADMINISTRATION<br />

Concentration in Long-Term-Care Administration<br />

Students seeking a career in long-term-care administration can select a sequence <strong>of</strong><br />

courses in Health Administration, Business, and Gerontology, including a 1040-clock-hour<br />

HADM internship, and upon successful completion <strong>of</strong> the curriculum, students will have<br />

met the educational requirements <strong>of</strong> the Pennsylvania State Board <strong>of</strong> Licensure for Nursing<br />

Home Administrators and be able to take the state licensure examination for long-term-care<br />

administrator. <strong>The</strong> Health Administration curriculum forms the infrastructure for the LTCA<br />

concentration. It includes 40 credits <strong>of</strong> HADM courses, continues the 21-credit Business<br />

minor and features 12 credits <strong>of</strong> Gerontology courses. <strong>The</strong> HADM/LTCA increases the<br />

credits for the Health Administration degree from 131 for the regular HADM major to 134.<br />

Students may also earn a second minor, in Gerontology, by taking Soc 110 and Gero 230.<br />

Proposal-writing for program planning<br />

and/or soliciting funds from public and<br />

private sources as well as the role <strong>of</strong> public<br />

relations and development in the creation<br />

<strong>of</strong> organizational resources.<br />

Health Finance 3 credits<br />

<strong>The</strong> costs <strong>of</strong> health care in society with<br />

emphasis on financial concepts and reimbursement<br />

mechanisms for health<br />

providers.<br />

Roles and functions <strong>of</strong> supervisory and<br />

administrative structure, including boards<br />

<strong>of</strong> directors in health agencies, systems,<br />

and organizations, with an emphasis on<br />

Health-Care Policy 3 credits<br />

(HADM Junior and Seniors only.) Public<br />

policy in the health care sector is studied,<br />

including the policy-making process.<br />

Implications <strong>of</strong> governmental policy for<br />

health-care organizations and administrators<br />

are discussed.<br />

HADM 315 Staff<br />

(D)Cultural Diversity and 3 credits<br />

Health Administration<br />

Focuses on the effects <strong>of</strong> cultural diversity<br />

on health-care administration. Emphasis is<br />

placed on the importance <strong>of</strong> assessing and<br />

addressing the health-care needs <strong>of</strong> various<br />

cultural groups within a given healthcare<br />

service area. For HADM majors and<br />

HADM minors only.<br />

HADM 316 Staff<br />

Health-Care Marketing 3 credits<br />

Marketing theories, concepts, strategies,<br />

methods, and techniques are studied and<br />

applied to health care. <strong>The</strong> unique aspects<br />

<strong>of</strong> health-care services, and health-care<br />

organizations are considered as they pertain<br />

to marketing.
