Practice III: Physical Rehabilitation<br />

(Prerequisites: PT 256, OT 275; co-requisite:<br />

OT 451) An overview <strong>of</strong> theoretical<br />

frames <strong>of</strong> reference, evaluation, and treatment-intervention<br />

strategies used to<br />

enhance the function <strong>of</strong> individuals with<br />

major physical disabilities. Emphasis<br />

placed on the neurodevelopmental, biomechanical<br />

and rehabilitative approaches.<br />

Methods <strong>of</strong> observation, assessment, and<br />

treatment techniques are introduced and<br />

practiced in lab simulations and field trips<br />

to area facilities. 2 hours lecture, 2 hours<br />

lab/week.<br />

OT 461 Pr<strong>of</strong>. Waskiewicz<br />

(D)Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapy 3 credits<br />

Practice IV: Geriatrics<br />

(Prerequisites: OT 460, OT 480) An<br />

overview <strong>of</strong> theoretical frames <strong>of</strong> reference,<br />

evaluation and treatment intervention<br />

strategies used to enhance the function <strong>of</strong><br />

the elderly. Emphasis placed on understanding<br />

the bio-psycho-social changes,<br />

characteristics and needs <strong>of</strong> older persons.<br />

Methods <strong>of</strong> observation, assessment, and<br />

treatment approaches are introduced and<br />

practiced in lab simulations and field trips<br />

to area facilities. 2 hours lecture, 2 hours<br />

lab/week.<br />

OT 475 Staff<br />

Advanced <strong>The</strong>rapeutic 3 credits<br />

Techniques<br />

(Prerequisites: OT 451, OT 460) Advanced<br />

theoretical concepts and treatment applications<br />

designed to provide exposure to the<br />

most current areas <strong>of</strong> focus in practice. <strong>The</strong><br />

approaches reviewed may include neurodevelopmental<br />

treatment, sensory integration,<br />

joint mobilization, industrial medicine,<br />

adaptive seating and assistive technology.<br />

2 hours lecture, 2 hours lab/week.<br />

OT 480 Staff<br />

Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapy Level I 1 credit<br />

Clinical – III: Physical Rehabilitation<br />

(Prerequisites: OT 381, OT 451, OT 460)<br />

Directed observation and supervised participation<br />

in the occupational-therapy process<br />

Emphasis on the integration <strong>of</strong> theory and<br />

practice. Intersession, 2 weeks, full-time.<br />

OT 481 Pr<strong>of</strong>. Waskiewicz<br />

OT Level II Internship – I: 6 credits<br />

Psychosocial Rehabilitation<br />

(Prerequisites: completion <strong>of</strong> all academic<br />

coursework) Full-time, supervised, Level<br />

II clinical experience in the area <strong>of</strong> psychosocial<br />

rehabilitation. In order to be eligible<br />

for the national-certification examination<br />

for Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapist<br />

Registered, the student must achieve at<br />

least the minimum scores on the AOTA<br />

Fieldwork Evaluation. Summer or fall, 12<br />

weeks minimum, full-time.<br />

OT 482 Pr<strong>of</strong>. Waskiewicz<br />

OT Level II Internship – II: 6 credits<br />

Physical Rehabilitation<br />

(Prerequisites: completion <strong>of</strong> all academic<br />

coursework) Full-time, supervised, Level<br />

II clinical experience in the area <strong>of</strong> physical<br />

rehabilitation. In order to be eligible to<br />

sit for the national-certification examination<br />

for Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapist Registered,<br />

the student must achieve at least the minimum<br />

scores on the AOTA Fieldwork<br />

Evaluation. Summer or fall, 12 weeks<br />

minimum, full-time.<br />

OT 483 Staff<br />

OT Level II Internship – III: 4-6 credits<br />

Specialty (optional)<br />

(Prerequisites: OT 481, OT 482) Full-time,<br />

supervised, Level II clinical experience in<br />

a specialty area <strong>of</strong> practice. Spring, 8-12<br />

weeks, full-time.<br />

OT 493 Pr<strong>of</strong>. Reinson<br />

Research Methods in 3 credits<br />

Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapy<br />

(Prerequisite: PSYC 210; co-requisites: OT<br />

451, OT 460) An introduction to research<br />

design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation<br />

<strong>of</strong> findings. Emphasis placed on<br />

critical review <strong>of</strong> occupational-therapy<br />

research studies, application to clinical<br />

practice, quantitative, and qualitative methods.<br />

Concepts are integrated through the<br />

preparation <strong>of</strong> a research proposal. 3 hours<br />

lecture/week.
