THE MARIAN M. AND PATRICK F. O’HARA SCHOLARSHIP—Income from an<br />

endowment provides unrestricted scholarships to deserving young men and women.<br />

THE OPPENHEIM FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP —This scholarship was established by<br />

the Oppenheim family who for many years owned and operated Oppenheim’s Department<br />

Store and its predecessor, <strong>The</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> Dry Goods Co. Eligible recipients are primarily<br />

part-time, non-traditional students who need financial assistance.<br />

THE PAUL J. POINSARD, M.D., SCHOLARSHIP — Mrs. JoAnne Poinsard established<br />

this scholarship in memory <strong>of</strong> her husband, a <strong>University</strong> alumnus. <strong>The</strong> scholarship<br />

assists deserving pre-medical students.<br />

THE REV. EDWARD R. POWERS, S.J., SCHOLARSHIP —This scholarship provides<br />

financial assistance based on academic excellence as well as demonstrated need.<br />

THE ERNEST D. PREATE, SR., MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP —<strong>The</strong> family <strong>of</strong><br />

Ernest D. Preate, Sr., Esq., established this scholarship in 1982. First consideration is given<br />

to needy students who are residents <strong>of</strong> Lackawanna County.<br />

THE REV. J.J. QUINN, S.J. SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship honors Rev. J.J.Quinn,<br />

S.J., pr<strong>of</strong>essor emeritus <strong>of</strong> English. It was started by alumni and former students to honor<br />

Fr. Quinn’s many years <strong>of</strong> service to <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>, his students and the community.<br />

Based on merit and need, the scholarship is available to students in all academic<br />

disciplines.<br />

THE FRANCIS E. AND ELIZABETH BRENNAN REDINGTON SCHOLARSHIP<br />

—This scholarship was established in 1984 according to provisions in the will <strong>of</strong> the late<br />

Francis E. Redington. It provides financial assistance to students on the basis <strong>of</strong> both ability<br />

and need. Some portion <strong>of</strong> the income each year supports scholarships for students from the<br />

Republic <strong>of</strong> Ireland.<br />

THE JOHN CHARLES AND KATHRYN S. REDMOND FOUNDATION SCHOL-<br />

ARSHIP—Mr. Redmond, a prominent businessman and honorary degree recipient, established<br />

this scholarship before his death in 1989. <strong>The</strong> scholarship is given to an outstanding<br />

student who is not eligible for any direct financial aid, as specified by state or federal regulations,<br />

but who shows financial need because <strong>of</strong> the student’s family situation (e.g., number<br />

<strong>of</strong> children in school needing parental support).<br />

THE DR. RICHARD A. RENDICH EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP —This<br />

endowed scholarship was established by the family <strong>of</strong> Grace Rendich, a <strong>University</strong> alumna.<br />

Income from the fund is used to assist in the education <strong>of</strong> needy young men aspiring to the<br />

priesthood.<br />

THE JOHN M. ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP —This scholarship was established by<br />

John M. Robinson, who attended the <strong>University</strong> and subsequently established LPS<br />

Industries, Inc., in Newark, New Jersey; the scholarship assists promising and deserving<br />

students. <strong>Scranton</strong> area residents receive first consideration.<br />

THE PATRICK AND MARIE C. ROCHE SCHOLARSHIP—Out <strong>of</strong> their affection for<br />

the <strong>University</strong> and respect for the school’s mission, <strong>Scranton</strong> natives Patrick and Marie<br />

Roche created this scholarship for eligible Lackawanna County students.<br />

THE MARY KAY/ROCHON SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship was set up by Mr.<br />

John Rochon and the Mary Kay Foundation. It is awarded to bright female students in economic<br />

need.<br />
