Presently your Company has successfully completed the civil works for a value of Rs. 420 Cr. for NPCIL<br />
– Kaiga Power Plant – Units 3 & 4. Your Company is also doing the major part of the work for the first fast<br />
breed Reactor Unit at Kalpakkam where the work is going on in full swing with the satisfaction of the Atomic<br />
Energy Dept. Though <strong>Gammon</strong> has the experience and expertise in this area, there is dearth of skilled<br />
manpower in this segment. Hence there is an urgent need to train manpower in this segment.<br />
d. Chimneys & Cooling Towers<br />
Cooling Tower industry is technology sensitive and highly specialized. Very few companies in the world<br />
possess this technology and <strong>Gammon</strong> is one of them. Today your Company is a leading player in this<br />
industry with expertise in Natural Draft towers and in Mechanical Draft Towers. Almost 90% of the Natural<br />
Draft Cooling Towers contracts in <strong>India</strong> have been executed by <strong>Gammon</strong>. Your Company is executing<br />
various large size contracts for refineries, power plants and steel plants in <strong>India</strong> and abroad.<br />
e. Irrigation Projects<br />
Your Company has also undertaken several irrigation projects. Progress on Irrigation projects being executed<br />
by the Company in Andhra Pradesh continues to be satisfactory. During this year, your Company has<br />
participated in other irrigation Projects and will continue to participate as and when they are announced.<br />
f. Tunnel Engineering<br />
At Teesta Hydroelectric project, the tunnel works awarded to the Company have been substantially<br />
completed. The Clients have increased the scope of tunnelling works and we expect to complete this by<br />
September <strong>2007</strong>. At Parbati II, your Company has successfully completed the second inclined pressure<br />
shaft of diameter 4.88 meters and of length 1540 meter (inclination 30 degrees to horizontal) using Tunnel<br />
Boring Machine (TBM). This is first of its kind in Asia and steepest inclination in the World. Tunnelling works<br />
at Parbati II, Parbati III, Sewa and Kol Dam continue to progress satisfactorily.<br />
g. Bridges & Flyovers<br />
During the year under review your Company has secured Projects worth Rs. 1100 Crores (Approx)<br />
for Bridges and Flyovers. <strong>India</strong>’s first Extra dosed Bridge was completed for the Delhi Metro Project at<br />
Indraprasth. Construction of Extra dosed bridge was a very challenging job, due to fact that execution was<br />
required to be carried out over one of the busiest sections of Northern Railways having five tracks with<br />
nearly 200 trains passing every day and work was carried out successfully without any disruption to train<br />
movements.<br />
During the year the Company completed a job of Major River Bridge (750 Meter long) over river Bidyadhary<br />
at Chaital Ghat, West Bengal, constructed for West Begal PWD worth Rs. 28.81 Crores. It also completed<br />
the job of constructing longest balance cantilever bridge over river Balason for Darjeeling Gorkha Hill<br />
Council worth Rs. 22.70 Crores.<br />
h. Underground Works<br />
The Company has bagged the project for construction of Diaphragm Wall on Sabarmati River from<br />
Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation Limited, Ahmedabad worth Rs. 94.83 Crores. The<br />
project is planned to be completed by March 2008. The total length of the wall is 15 kms out of which<br />
approximately 7 kms have been completed; which is the longest underground Diaphragm Wall work done<br />
by the Company as of date.<br />
i. Water and Environment<br />
The Government of <strong>India</strong> is according high priority to water supply Sector in the country. Under<br />
the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) scheme, funds aggregating more than<br />
Rs. 40000 Crores have already been sanctioned and several other projects are under active consideration.<br />
Besides this, under other schemes also a massive outlay has been provided for this sector. The future<br />
of this sector seems to be promising. During the year under review, your Company has successfully<br />
completed the project for 3 MLD Water Supply Scheme at Guwahati, Assam. Further Surendranagar Dist.<br />
Water Supply is nearing completion. It is under Commissioning and shall be completed in this Financial<br />
Year.<br />
