PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT –<br />
BUILDING & GROUNDS<br />
Overview<br />
The Public Works Department is comprised <strong>of</strong> three divisions:<br />
1) Administration/Project Management, 2) Streets <strong>and</strong> Underground Utilities, <strong>and</strong> 3) Utilities (Water <strong>and</strong><br />
Sewer). The Public Works Administration coordinates <strong>and</strong> manages the three (3) divisions within the<br />
department. This includes but is not limited to management <strong>of</strong> all department personnel issues, project<br />
management <strong>and</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> policies <strong>and</strong> procedures.<br />
Building <strong>and</strong> Grounds Staff are part <strong>of</strong> the Streets <strong>and</strong> Underground Utilities Division <strong>and</strong> are responsible for<br />
the maintenance <strong>and</strong> repair <strong>of</strong> all municipal buildings <strong>and</strong> property around them including the following:<br />
• Municipal Complex<br />
• Public Works Facility - Bakley Street<br />
• Old <strong>Village</strong> Hall<br />
• Public Works Facility - Donald Drive<br />
Buildings & Grounds Division Goals for <strong>2009</strong><br />
• Reduce the cost <strong>of</strong> providing janitorial services at the Municipal Complex by providing the service inhouse.<br />
• Reduce the cost <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> snow removal services at the Municipal Complex by providing the<br />
service in-house.<br />
• Assist with installation <strong>of</strong> shelving units in the basement at the Municipal Complex to organize <strong>and</strong><br />
effectively use area.<br />
• Assist with build-out <strong>of</strong> Police Department <strong>and</strong> <strong>Village</strong> Hall second floor unfurnished areas by working<br />
with contractor to coordinate project.<br />
• Oversight <strong>of</strong> the installation <strong>of</strong> a generator for st<strong>and</strong>by power at the Bakley Street Public Works<br />
Facility. The generator was removed from the Allison Court. Police Department Facility <strong>and</strong> will now<br />
be used to power Public Works during outages.<br />
• Continue Service Request program which was implemented in 2008 to more effectively track <strong>and</strong><br />
document maintenance requests.<br />
• Per the <strong>Village</strong> Board’s direction, funds are set aside for the design <strong>of</strong> the new <strong>Village</strong> Entry Signs.<br />
