PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT –<br />

STREETS & UNDERGROUND<br />

Overview<br />

The Public Works Department is comprised <strong>of</strong> three divisions:<br />

1) Administration/Project Management, 2) Streets <strong>and</strong> Underground Utilities, <strong>and</strong> 3) Utilities (Water <strong>and</strong><br />

Sewer). The Public Works Administration coordinates <strong>and</strong> manages the three (3) divisions within the<br />

department. This includes but is not limited to management <strong>of</strong> all department personnel issues, project<br />

management <strong>and</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> policies <strong>and</strong> procedures.<br />

Streets & Underground Division is responsible for the maintenance <strong>and</strong> repair <strong>of</strong> all <strong>Village</strong> owned roads,<br />

roadways, sidewalks, street lighting, signage (including pavement markings), infrastructures (water<br />

distribution, storm <strong>and</strong> sanitary collection systems) <strong>and</strong> assists with special community events.<br />

Streets & Underground Division Goals for <strong>2009</strong><br />

• Install <strong>and</strong> utilize the new flex fuel system in order to promote the <strong>Village</strong>’s Green Fleet Initiative.<br />

• Enhance curbside brush pickup program by adding a once per month (June through September)<br />

brush drop <strong>of</strong>f at Donald Drive Public Works Facility. This will be done on the first Saturday <strong>of</strong><br />

the month from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. Staff will be on site to chip brush <strong>and</strong> assist with loading wood<br />

chips if necessary.<br />

• Continue inventorying <strong>of</strong> parkway trees to indentify location <strong>of</strong> ash trees.<br />

• Continue snow <strong>and</strong> ice removal operations on the 120 miles <strong>of</strong> <strong>Village</strong> streets in the most efficient<br />

<strong>and</strong> effective manner.<br />

• Maintain the <strong>Village</strong>’s 2,226 street lights.<br />

• Maintain the <strong>Village</strong>’s twelve (12) traffic signals.<br />

• Continue the <strong>Village</strong>’s Mosquito Management Program.<br />

• Continue the <strong>Village</strong>’s Aquatic Weed Control Program.<br />
