VILLAGE OF HUNTLEY<br />
DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT<br />
Overview<br />
The primary responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the Development Services Department are to coordinate<br />
long-range planning; to conduct plan reviews <strong>and</strong> to issue building permits; to provide<br />
inspection <strong>and</strong> code enforcement services; to administer the appropriate <strong>Village</strong><br />
ordinances to preserve <strong>and</strong> enhance the character <strong>and</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> life <strong>of</strong> the community.<br />
Specifically, the department is separated into two divisions:<br />
Enforcement <strong>and</strong> Planning <strong>and</strong> Zoning.<br />
Building <strong>and</strong> Code<br />
The Building <strong>and</strong> Code Enforcement Division is responsible for the review <strong>and</strong> approval<br />
<strong>of</strong> all construction plans for conformance with applicable codes as well as conducting<br />
site inspections for all projects, including general construction, plumbing, electrical, <strong>and</strong><br />
HVAC mechanical systems. The division works closely with the <strong>Huntley</strong> Fire Protection<br />
District to ensure conformance with life safety code requirements <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Village</strong><br />
Engineer to ensure compliance with drainage <strong>and</strong> grading requirements. In addition, this<br />
division is responsible for enforcement <strong>of</strong> the property maintenance code <strong>and</strong> other<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Village</strong> code <strong>of</strong> ordinances related to the upkeep <strong>of</strong> residential <strong>and</strong><br />
commercial properties throughout the <strong>Village</strong>.<br />
The Planning <strong>and</strong> Zoning Division has primary responsibility for processing planning <strong>and</strong><br />
zoning petitions through the advisory board process <strong>and</strong> coordination <strong>of</strong> long-range<br />
planning activities, such as updating the comprehensive l<strong>and</strong> use plan <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Village</strong>’s<br />
zoning ordinance. Staff support is provided directly to the Planning Commission, Zoning<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Appeals, <strong>and</strong> Historic Preservation Commission.<br />
Development Services Department Goals for <strong>2009</strong><br />
• Review <strong>and</strong> present for adoption annual amendments to building codes<br />
• Review <strong>and</strong> present for adoption an updated zoning ordinance<br />
• Bring key development projects through the planning, zoning <strong>and</strong> annexation<br />
process in a timely manner<br />
• Continue to educate residents on building codes <strong>and</strong> permit procedures<br />
• Improve department policies <strong>and</strong> further streamline application <strong>and</strong> development<br />
procedures<br />
• Enhance on-line functionality <strong>of</strong> the building permit process<br />
• Continue to promote outst<strong>and</strong>ing customer service<br />
• Per the <strong>Village</strong> Board’s direction, funds are set aside for Downtown<br />
Revitalization planning<br />
