The animals at the highest dose also had decreased serum alan<strong>in</strong>e am<strong>in</strong>otransferase activity,<br />

<strong>in</strong>creased alkal<strong>in</strong>e phosphatase activity, <strong>in</strong>creased cholesterol levels (also at the <strong>in</strong>termediate dose), and<br />

decreased album<strong>in</strong> : globul<strong>in</strong> ratios (also at the <strong>in</strong>termediate dose), calcium (also at the <strong>in</strong>termediate<br />

dose), potassium and phosphorus concentrations. In females at 200 mg/kg bw per day, serum alan<strong>in</strong>e<br />

am<strong>in</strong>otransferase activity was decreased, and alkal<strong>in</strong>e phosphatase activity and cholesterol levels<br />

were <strong>in</strong>creased. Thyroid function tests revealed decreased thyrox<strong>in</strong>e concentrations <strong>in</strong> males at the<br />

<strong>in</strong>termediate and highest doses but no clear effects on triiodothyron<strong>in</strong>e or thyroid-stimulat<strong>in</strong>g hormone.<br />

Abnormalities seen post mortem <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong>creased liver weights <strong>in</strong> dogs at the highest dose and<br />
