Quality assurance functions<br />

S6—The quality assurance body performs its registration functions effectively <strong>and</strong><br />

in accordance with legislative requirements (this applies solely to the New Zeal<strong>and</strong><br />

Qualifications Authority).<br />

S7—The quality assurance body effectively performs course approval functions in<br />

accordance with legislative requirements.<br />

S8—The quality assurance body effectively accredits organisations to deliver<br />

approved courses <strong>and</strong> National Qualifications Framework qualifications within the<br />

scope <strong>of</strong> its delegation.<br />

S9—The quality assurance body has appropriate quality assurance processes in place<br />

to assure <strong>and</strong> maintain ongoing quality.<br />

Accrediting<br />

bodies<br />

Accrediting bodies are responsible for the approval <strong>of</strong> courses <strong>and</strong> the accreditation<br />

<strong>of</strong> organisations to deliver them irrespective <strong>of</strong> whether they lead to a national<br />

qualification or not. They are also responsible for the accreditation <strong>of</strong> organisations<br />

to assess unit st<strong>and</strong>ards on the National Qualifications Framework.<br />

The Audit St<strong>and</strong>ard for inter-institutional quality assurance bodies with delegation<br />

from the New Zeal<strong>and</strong> Qualifications Authority sets out the expected st<strong>and</strong>ards for<br />

the authority’s quality assurance functions as well as for those functions delegated to<br />

Registration<br />

Private training organisations are required to be registered as private training<br />

establishments if they wish to receive government funding or to enrol international<br />

students. Quality Assurance St<strong>and</strong>ard One (QAS1) consists <strong>of</strong> policies <strong>and</strong> criteria<br />

that the New Zeal<strong>and</strong> Qualifications Agency has established for the registration <strong>of</strong><br />

private training establishments (available at<br />
