Read more (2) The connectingsection of the two parts of every articulated bus to which this regulationapplies shall be constructed so as to comply with the provisions relatingto such a section specified in paragraph 5.9in ECE Regulation36 as regards vehicles within the scope ofthat Regulation. (3) Everyarticulated bus to which this regulation applies shall be constructed so thatwhen the vehicle is moving in a straight line the longitudinal median planesof its two parts coincide and form a continuous plane without any deflection. B BRAKES Braking systems of certain vehicles first used on or after 1st April1983 15.—(1) Save asprovided in paragraphs (2), (3) and (4), the braking system of every wheeledvehicle of a class specified in an item in column 2 of the Table which isfirst used on or after 1st April 1983 shall comply with the construction,fitting, and performance requirements specified in Annexes I, II and VII to Community Directive 79/489, andif relevant, Annexes III, IV, V, VIand VIIIto that Directive, in relation to the category of vehicles specified in thatitem in column 3. Provided thatit shall be lawful for any vehicle of such a class which was first used before1st April 1983 to comply with the said requirements instead of complying with regulations 16 and 17. TABLE (regulation 15(1)) 1 2 3 Item Classof Vehicle Vehicle Category in the CommunityDirective 1 Passenger vehicles and dual-purposevehicles which have 3 or more wheels except— (a) dual-purpose vehicles constructed and adaptedto carry not more than 2 passengers exclusive of the driver; (b) motor-cycles with side-car attached; (c) vehicles having 3 wheels,and not exceeding a maximum gross weight of 1000 kg, a design speed of 40km/h and an engine capacity of 50 cc.; (d) buses. 2 Buses having a maximum gross weight which does notexceed 5000 kg. 3 Buses having a maximum gross weight which exceeds 5000 kg. 4 Dual-purpose vehicles notwithin item 1(a); and goods vehicles, havinga maximum gross weight which does not exceed 3500 kg, and not being motorcycleswith a sidecar attached. N3 Trailers of whichthe sum of the axle weights— 7 does not exceed 750kg. O1 8 exceeds750 kg but does not exceed 3500 kg. O2 9 exceeds 3500 kg but does not exceed10,000 kg. O3 10 exceeds 10,000 kg. O4 (2) The requirementsspecified in paragraph (1) do not apply to— (a) anagricultural trailer or agricultural trailed appliance that is not, in eithercase, drawn at a speed exceeding 20 mph; (b) alocomotive; (c) amotor tractor; (d) anagricultural motor vehicle unless it is first used after 1st June 1986 andis driven at more than 20 mph; (e) avehicle which has a maximum speed not exceeding 25 km/h; (f) aworks trailer; (g) aworks truck; (h) apublic works vehicle; (i) atrailer designed and constructed, or adapted, to be drawn exclusively by avehicle to which sub-paragraph (b), (c), (e), (g) or (h) ofthis paragraph applies; (j) atrailer mentioned in regulation 16(3)(b), (d), (e), (f) and (g);or (k) avehicle manufactured by Leyland Vehicles Limited and known as the AtlanteanBus, if first used before 1st October 1984. (3) The requirementsspecified in paragraph (1) shall apply to the classes of vehicles specifiedin the Table so that— (a) initems 2 and 3 the testing requirements specified in paragraphs 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 of Annex II to thesaid Community Directive shall not apply in relation to a double-decked vehiclefirst used before 1st October 1983; (b) initems 2 and 3 the requirements specified in paragraph 1.1.4.2 of Annex II to the said Community Directive shall notapply; (c) initems 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, in the case of vehicles constructed or adaptedfor use by physically handicapped drivers, the requirement in paragraph 2.1.2.1 of Annex I tothe said Community Directive that the driver must be able to achieve the brakingaction mentioned in that paragraph from his driving seat without removinghis hands from the steering control shall be modified so as to require thatthe driver is able to achieve that action while one of his hands remains onthe steering control; and N2 27
