Judicial Business<br />

1. Regina v. Bentham (Appellant) (On Appeal from the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division))—It<br />

was moved by the Lord Bingham of Cornhill, That the 26th Report from the Appellate<br />

Committee be agreed to; the motion was agreed to. It was ordered and adjudged that the<br />

Order of the Court of Appeal Criminal Division of 5th December 2003 be set aside; and that<br />

the Appellant’s conviction at Preston Crown Court on 5th September 2002 on count 2<br />

(namely, possessing an imitation firearm during the course of robbery, contrary to section<br />

17(2) of the Firearms Act 1968) be quashed. [2005] UKHL 18<br />

2. In re B (FC) (Appellant) (2002)—<br />

3. Regina v. Special Adjudicator (Respondent) ex parte Hoxha (FC) (Appellant)—<br />

It was moved by the Lord Steyn, on behalf of the Lord Nicholls of Birkenhead, That the 27th<br />

Report from the Appellate Committee be agreed to; the motion was agreed to. It was ordered<br />

and adjudged that the orders appealed from be aYrmed and the appeals dismissed with costs;<br />

and that the amounts thereof, if any, to be paid by the appellants and to be paid out of the<br />

Community Legal Service Fund be certified by the Clerk of the <strong>Parliament</strong>s in accordance with<br />

section 11 of the Access to Justice Act 1999; and that the costs of the appellants in this House<br />

be taxed in accordance with the Access to Justice Act 1999. [2005] UKHL 19<br />

4. Law Society (Respondents) v. Sephton & Co (a firm) (Appellants) and another and others<br />

(Appellants) (England)—The appeal of Sephton & Co, James Arthur Sephton, Philip Leslie<br />

Houlston and Alexander William Gordon Cunningham was presented and it was ordered that<br />

in accordance with Standing Order VI the statement and appendix thereto be lodged on or<br />

before 21st April.<br />

5. Secretary of State for the Home Department (Respondent) v. Hindawi (FC) (Petitioner) and<br />

another—The petition of Nezar Hindawi praying for leave to appeal was presented and<br />

referred to an Appeal Committee. The petitioner’s certificate of public funding was lodged<br />

(lodged 18th February).<br />

6. In re J (a child) (FC)—The petition of the appellant praying that the time for lodging the statement<br />

and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 24th March (the<br />

agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.<br />

7. In re Sinn Fein (Appellants) (Northern Ireland)—The petition of the appellants was presented<br />

praying that the appeal be withdrawn on the terms agreed between the parties (the agents for<br />

the respondent consenting thereto); and it was ordered as prayed.<br />
