PRAYERS were read by the Lord Bishop of Chelmsford.<br />

1. Barony of Burnham in the Peerage of the <strong>United</strong> <strong>Kingdom</strong>—The Lord Chancellor reported that<br />

Harry Frederick Alan Lawson had established his succession to the Barony of Burnham in the<br />

Peerage of the <strong>United</strong> <strong>Kingdom</strong>. The Clerk of the <strong>Parliament</strong>s was accordingly directed to<br />

enter the Lord Burnham on the register of hereditary peers maintained under Standing<br />

Order 10(5).<br />

Judicial Business<br />

2. Law Society (Respondents) v. Sephton & Co (a firm) (Appellants) and another and others<br />

(Appellants)—It was ordered that the appellants be allowed to prosecute the appeal without<br />

giving the usual security for costs as required by Standing Order.<br />

3. Appeal Committee—The 33rd Report from the Appeal Committee was agreed to and the<br />

following Orders were made—<br />

Topplan Estates Limited (Petitioners) v. Townley (Respondent)—That leave to appeal be<br />

refused; that the respondent be at liberty to apply for his costs in accordance with direction<br />

5.1(d); and, if the application is granted, that the amount thereof be certified by the Clerk of<br />

the <strong>Parliament</strong>s if not agreed between the parties.<br />

Fattal and another (Petitioners) v. John Lyon’s Charity (Respondents)—That leave to appeal<br />

be refused; that the respondents be at liberty to apply for their costs in accordance with<br />

direction 5.1(d); and, if the application is granted, that the amount thereof be certified by the<br />

Clerk of the <strong>Parliament</strong>s if not agreed between the parties.<br />

South Bucks District Council (Respondents) v. Coates and others (Petitioners)—That leave<br />

to appeal be refused.<br />

St Leger-Davey (by her litigation friend) (Petitioner) and another v. First Secretary of State<br />

for the Environment and others (Respondents)—That leave to appeal be refused; that the first<br />

and third respondents be at liberty to apply for their costs in accordance with direction 5.1(d);<br />

and, if the application is granted, that the amount thereof be certified by the Clerk of the<br />

<strong>Parliament</strong>s if not agreed between the parties.<br />
