Preparedness<br />
• In Gisborne, preparedness levels are significantly higher than average in the following preparedness<br />
diagnostics:<br />
• You <strong>have</strong> a good understanding <strong>of</strong> the types <strong>of</strong> disasters <strong>that</strong> could occur in New Zealand, and the<br />
chances <strong>of</strong> them occurring (95%, cf. 82% national average)<br />
• You <strong>have</strong> a good understanding <strong>of</strong> what the effects would be if a disaster struck in your area (94%,<br />
cf. 84% national average).<br />
• When it comes to information about preparing for a disaster, Gisborne residents are more likely than<br />
average to say they can get information from a local or regional council (42%, cf. 27% national average).<br />
• Gisborne residents who <strong>have</strong> taken steps in the past 12 months to prepare for a disaster are more likely<br />
than average to say <strong>that</strong> disasters <strong>that</strong> <strong>have</strong> occurred in New Zealand (other than the Christchurch<br />
earthquake) (37%, cf. 17% national average) and tsunami warnings (11%, cf. 2% national average) <strong>have</strong><br />
prompted them to take these steps.<br />
