Preparedness<br />

• Compared to last year, more Otago residents are fully prepared for a disaster (up from 8% to 23% this<br />

year).<br />

• A greater than average proportion <strong>of</strong> Otago residents are familiar with the <strong>Civil</strong> Defence information in<br />

the Yellow Pages (82%, cf. 67% national average).<br />

• Otago residents are more likely than average to say <strong>that</strong> cost is a barrier to being prepared (36%, cf. 16%<br />

national average).<br />

• Otago residents are less likely than average to say it is very important to be prepared for a disaster (49%,<br />

cf. 63% national average).<br />

Advertising and information<br />

• Two thirds (66%) <strong>of</strong> Otago residents <strong>have</strong> seen, heard or read any general advertising about preparing<br />

for a disaster.<br />

• Over seven in ten (72%) Otago residents <strong>have</strong> seen the <strong>Civil</strong> Defence television advertising.<br />
