When you receive the notification that your order has been received by SDC, they ask you to use this e-mail for status reports. When SDC does the install, you may want to consider asking them to also install RealVu. RealVu is a free ProtoBase product that enables settlement from computers other than the Computer where PBAdmin is installed (which is the ProtoBase server). RealVu offloads most of the overhead of running PbAdmin directly on the ProtoBase computer. SDC provides training on use of PBAdmin; please be sure they schedule that with you. Port 443 does not need to be open to allow ingoing traffic. See the Salesware System Architecture and Specifications document for a diagram showing how the ProtoBase server integrates with the rest of the Salesware installation. 92
ProtoBase Installation ProtoBase installation is normally performed by ProtoBase technicians. This section provides a brief overview of the installation process and components. ProtoBase is installed on a dedicated computer with a static IP address. It is usually installed at the root of the C: drive: C:\PB ProtoBase also implements several Environment variables, as shown in the following screen capture. PbAdmin is the primary user interface to ProtoBase. It runs on the ProtoBase server and is used for all administrative tasks. However, many clients implement RealVu, which is graphical user interface software for PbAdmin that runs on computers remote to the ProtoBase server. You should run RealVu in such a way that it doesn’t add to the load on the ProtoBase server, such as over a Virtual Private Network (VPN). 93
