Center Wetland Restoration (2005) – construction of the 2-acre “Gator Pond” in the adjacent southwestern upland pasture provided the fill material necessary to construct the Center Road (3,000 ft. long) and Eastern Road (2,300 ft. long). Center Wetland Restoration (2006) – sodding sideslopes along the constructed Center Road berm. The Center and Eastern Roads have evenly spaced culvert sets to evenly disperse the contributing sheet water flow through the restored wetlands. Center Wetland Restoration (2001) – pre-construction view of the Banana Creek Canal, large drainage system of collector ditches, pumps and perimeter spoil rim along the canal banks were utilized to drain contributing flow and discharge direct into Lake Hancock, keeping the adjacent pastures dry after major rain events for cattle production. Center Wetland Restoration (2005) – bulldozers were utilized to backfill the western half of the Banana Creek Canal. Due to several decades of organic oxidation and subsidence, the spoil berms did not have sufficient material to match historic natural grade, so small obligate marsh pockets were constructed in the footprint of the canal to provide refuge for fish, amphibians and reptiles.
