Only 55% of children of primary school age (7-12) are attending school (Table 10.4). In<br />

urban areas, 78% of children attend school while in rural areas attendance is only 50%. The<br />

proportion of children attending primary or secondary school increases with the child s age<br />

up to the age of 11. Attendance starts to decrease from age 12. Primary school attendance<br />

shows significant variance between children living in the poorest households (40%<br />

attendance) and those living in the wealthiest households (79% attendance).<br />

Table 10.5 shows secondary school attendance rates.<br />
