Knowledge of mother-to-child transmission of HIV is also an important first step for women to<br />

seek HIV testing when they are pregnant to avoid transmitting the infection to the baby.<br />

Women should know that HIV can be transmitted during pregnancy, delivery, and through<br />

breastfeeding. Table 12.3 shows knowledge of mother-to-child HIV transmission in Afghanistan.<br />
