MUEN5341 Collegium Musicum (Sp, Fa) Performance <strong>of</strong> early music for various<br />

combinations <strong>of</strong> instruments and/or voices. Rehearsal 2 hours per week. May be repeated.<br />

MUEN5401 Opera Theatre (Sp, Fa) Study <strong>of</strong> opera through performances <strong>of</strong> scenes,<br />

chamber and major operatic production. Admission with director’s approval. May be repeated.<br />

MUEN5411 Concert Choir (Sp, Su, Fa) Rehearsal 3 hours per week with extra<br />

MUEN5421 Inspirational Singers (Sp, Fa) Performance <strong>of</strong> African-American literature<br />

with particular emphasis on Negro Spirituals and traditional/contemporary gospel music.<br />

MUEN5541 Accompanying (Sp, Fa) Piano accompanying <strong>of</strong> vocal and instrumental<br />

MUTH4322 Score Reading (Irregular) A conductor’s approach to the technique <strong>of</strong><br />

score reading and analysis <strong>of</strong> orchestra, band, and choral scores for the purpose <strong>of</strong> preparing<br />

composition for rehearsal and performance.<br />

MUTH4612 Orchestration (Fa) A continuation <strong>of</strong> study <strong>of</strong> the capabilities <strong>of</strong> the various<br />

orchestral and band instruments and their use in arrangement for ensembles, band, and<br />

orchestra. Scoring for orchestra. Prerequisite: MUTH 3613.<br />

MUTH4703 Form and Analysis (Sp) Beginning with phrase and period structure, a<br />

complete evaluation <strong>of</strong> musical form through large forms such as sonata, rondo, and theme<br />

and variation; with emphasis on characteristics <strong>of</strong> the classic and romantic schools, and analyses<br />

<strong>of</strong> select sonata movements. Prerequisite: MUTH 3613. May be repeated for 3 hours.<br />

MUTH477V Special Topics in Music Theory (Irregular) (1-4) Subject matter not<br />

MUTH5343 Analytical Techniques (Irregular) An intensive study <strong>of</strong> selected works<br />

from music literature. Schenkerian analysis, rhythmic analysis, and set theory analytical techniques<br />

will be studied and employed in addition to traditional harmonic and formal analysis.<br />

Prerequisite: MUTH 3613 or equivalent and graduate standing.<br />

MUTH5623 Pedagogy <strong>of</strong> Theory (Irregular) Detailed study <strong>of</strong> methods <strong>of</strong> teaching<br />

undergraduates courses in music theory and aural perception. Prerequisite: graduate standing.<br />

MUTH5631 Music Theory Teaching Practicum (Irregular) Supervised teaching<br />

<strong>of</strong> an undergraduate course in music theory or aural perception, including lesson plan and<br />

examination preparation and in-class observation.<br />

MUTH5643 Analysis <strong>of</strong> 20th Century Music (Irregular) Study <strong>of</strong> 20th century<br />

music and analytic techniques including pitch class set theory and serial techniques.<br />

MUTH5662 Instrumental Arranging (Su) A practical course in arranging for the<br />

various small ensembles including keyboard. Review <strong>of</strong> instrumental ranges and capabilities.<br />

(under the direction <strong>of</strong> the teacher(s) <strong>of</strong> historic instruments involved and other members <strong>of</strong> a<br />

graduate committee) <strong>of</strong> a performance (45 minutes minimum playing time) displaying historic<br />

practices <strong>of</strong> performance with lecture. The candidate will be responsible for making an archival<br />

tape <strong>of</strong> the performance available to the library, with 2 copies <strong>of</strong> a transcript <strong>of</strong> the lecture in<br />

thesis form to be retained by the <strong>University</strong> library.<br />
