The Educational Technology Program is a 33-hour non-thesis<br />

master’s program that prepares students for pr<strong>of</strong>essional positions as<br />

educational technologists <strong>of</strong> education, business, government, and<br />

the health pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<br />

Prerequisites to Degree Programs: Applicants for the M.Ed.<br />

degree must have completed a bachelor’s degree and earned a 2.70<br />

GPA in all undergraduate course work or obtained an acceptable<br />

score on the <strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examinations or Miller Analogies Test.<br />

Requirements for the Master <strong>of</strong> Education Degree: In addition<br />

to the general requirements <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>, students must<br />

complete a minimum <strong>of</strong> 33 hours <strong>of</strong> graduate course work to include<br />

18 semester hours <strong>of</strong> educational technology courses; six semester<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> educational technology electives; and nine semester hours<br />

from the College <strong>of</strong> Education and Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions common core.<br />

Additionally, a Culminating Student Portfolio must be successfully<br />

completed during the last three hours <strong>of</strong> course work and will replace<br />

the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> requirement <strong>of</strong> a comprehensive examination.<br />

Degree Requirements: (33 hours)<br />

1. College <strong>of</strong> Education and Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions Core: 9 hours<br />

2. Educational Technology Core: 18 hours<br />

3. Educational Technology Electives: 6 hours<br />

4. Culminating Student Portfolio: Completed during the last 3<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> course work.<br />

Educational Technologies (ETEC)<br />

ETEC5062 Teaching and Learning with Computer-based Technologies (Su)<br />

Provides students admitted to the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program with the information<br />

and experience needed to use computer-based teaching technologies to meet instructional<br />

objectives in content area classrooms. Prerequisite: ETEC 2003.<br />

ETEC5063 Practicum in Educational Technology (Irregular) Provides practical<br />

experiences in educational technology. Prerequisite: graduate standing and 15 credit hours<br />

completed in educational technology.<br />

ETEC5103 Instructional Systems Analysis and Design (Irregular) A basic<br />

level instructional analysis and design course. Students demonstrate knowledge <strong>of</strong> specific<br />

behavioral, social, and cognitive learning strategies that significantly influence the analysis,<br />

design, and evaluation <strong>of</strong> instructional technology products. Prerequisite: graduate standing.<br />

ETEC5183 Internet in the K-12 Classroom (Irregular) This course prepares teachers<br />

to be informed consumers <strong>of</strong> Internet technology; plan appropriate and effective Internet<br />

activities for their learners; and understand their responsibilities regarding electronic media,<br />

communications, and the Internet in the classroom. Prerequisite: graduate standing.<br />

ETEC5203 History & Systems <strong>of</strong> Instructional Technology (Sp, Su, Fa)<br />

Provides learners with a comprehensive survey <strong>of</strong> the major trends, issues, people, processes,<br />

and products that have significantly affected the evolution <strong>of</strong> the field <strong>of</strong> educational<br />

technology.<br />

ETEC5213 Introduction to Educational Media (Sp, Su, Fa) Instruction in selecting,<br />

utilizing and evaluating instructional materials and equipment. Prerequisite: graduate<br />

standing.<br />

ETEC5233 Teaching Educational Technology (Fa) Provides practical experience in<br />

teaching educational courses. Prerequisite: graduate standing.<br />

ETEC5243 Instructional Design Theory & Models (Fa) A study <strong>of</strong> the instructional<br />

development process as it pertains to the design and production <strong>of</strong> instructional materials<br />

which use modern technologies. Goal analysis, objectives, evaluation, instructional strategy<br />

development, production <strong>of</strong> an educational product, and revision <strong>of</strong> the instructional materials<br />

are considered. Prerequisite: graduate standing.<br />
