Awards and recognition<br />
During the <strong>evaluation</strong> period, some awards were won by ESoE staff and PhD’s. In 2009,<br />
ESoE staff member professor dr. T. Bergen and ESoE PhD students dr. F. Crasborn and dr. P.<br />
Henissen, together with dr. N. Brouwer (Radboud University Nijmegen) received the AERA<br />
(American Educational Research Association) Distinguished Research in Teacher Education<br />
award. In 2011 professor dr. P. den Brok and dr. R. Taconis, and in 2012 professor P. den<br />
Brok won the Springer Best Article in the Learning Environments Research Journal Award of<br />
the special interest group ‘learning environments’ of the American Educational Research<br />
Association. In 2012, ESoE emeritus professor dr. W. Jochems received a medal of honour of<br />
the <strong>Eindhoven</strong> University of Technology for his enduring services to the TU/e and<br />
contributions in educational research. In both 2007 and 2008, professor dr. P. den Brok won<br />
the Springer Award for best contribution of the SIG Learning Environments Research of the<br />
annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association.<br />
Editorships, board member ships in journals/books, memberships of organizations<br />
While almost all of ESoE’s tenured and non-tenured staff conduct reviews for a variety of<br />
journals in the domains of teaching, teacher education, learning environments, science<br />
teaching and science education, ESoE staff also occupy roles in the editorial boards of several<br />
scientific journals and/or book series. Professor dr. D. Beijaard is executive editor of Teachers<br />
and Teaching: Theory and Practice; was member of the editorial board of Pedagogische<br />
Studiën, and is member of the international editorial board of Teaching and Teacher<br />
Education. Professor dr. P. den Brok is European editor of the Learning Environments<br />
Research Journal, member of editorial board of the book series ‘Advances In Learning<br />
Environments Research’, and associate editor of the journals Teachers and Teaching: Theory<br />
and Practice, Educational Research and Evaluation, International Journal of Science<br />
Education, The Open Education Journal and The Asian-Pacific Journal of Educational<br />
Research and Synergy. Professor dr. K. Gravemeijer (emeritus) was member of the editorial<br />
board of the following journals: Journal of Research in Mathematics Education, Mathematical<br />
Thinking and Learning, Cognition and Instruction, Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education<br />
and Didaktief. Dr. M. van Eijck is associate editor of the Science Education Review journal,<br />
the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, the Eurasian Journal of Physics and Chemistry<br />
Education and member of the editorial board of the Cultural Studies in Science Education<br />
(both book series as well as the journal). Dr. R. Taconis is associate editor of the International<br />
Journal of Science Education journal, and member of the editorial board of the Dutch journal<br />
Tijdschrift voor Bèta Didactiek. Dr. M. Koopman is associate editor of Teachers and<br />
Teaching: Theory and Practice.<br />
ESoE staff and PhD students are members of several national and international organizations,<br />
in particular VOR, VELON, ICO, NVON, EARLI, EERA, ESERA, AERA, NARST, ISATT.<br />
In these organizations they present their research, organize (international) symposia and act as<br />
session chair.<br />
Invited addresses and speeches<br />
ESoE staff members are regularly invited to speak at national and international meetings, both<br />
aimed at audiences of scholars as well as practitioners. Examples can be found in the CV’s<br />
presented in Appendix 9.<br />
