<strong>2007</strong> Targets<br />
Ensure employment policies and procedures reflect the goals <strong>of</strong> Growing Esteem<br />
Academic promotions criteria and reward, recognition and retention policies for pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff were revised to reflect<br />
the Growing Esteem Strategy. Change management support was incorporated into all leadership programs. Strategies were<br />
implemented to improve performance <strong>of</strong> non-research active academic staff. A workforce planning framework was developed<br />
in partnership with the faculty business planning process. Promotion <strong>of</strong> equal opportunity and an inclusive workplace<br />
has continued in particular through faculty Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace networks, the Staff Equity and<br />
Diversity Committee and development <strong>of</strong> a <strong>University</strong>-wide Staff Equity and Diversity Plan. The <strong>University</strong> received an<br />
Employer <strong>of</strong> Choice for Women Award for <strong>2007</strong>/8.<br />
Achieve a strong marketing pr<strong>of</strong>ile and communicate effectively<br />
with stakeholders, particularly in relation to the <strong>Melbourne</strong> Model<br />
The <strong>University</strong>’s marketing and communications pr<strong>of</strong>ile was redeveloped to include new digital media, renewed print<br />
publications and an innovative DreamLarge marketing campaign to promote the <strong>Melbourne</strong> Model. New digital media included:<br />
<strong>Melbourne</strong> Up Close podcasts, Visions, <strong>Melbourne</strong> Voice, Research Review, and key public lectures. Successful major events<br />
included: <strong>Melbourne</strong> Model Launch, Open Day, Postgraduate Expo, Graduate Schools Launch, and Town and Gown Dinner. The<br />
<strong>University</strong> made significant advances in consistent branding.<br />
Ensure that physical infrastructure is in place which supports Growing Esteem<br />
The Parkville masterplan, designed to ensure that physical infrastructure supports Growing Esteem, is on track for completion<br />
by July 2008. A new Economics and Commerce building is under construction. The first learning precinct is under construction.<br />
Plans to improve research infrastructure were completed or are progressing for: Education; Arts; Science; Architecture, Building<br />
and Planning; and Land and Food Resources. Additional space was leased for a number <strong>of</strong> groups including research laboratories<br />
for Engineering and space for ANZSOG, the Martin Institute, the Confucius Institute and the Islamic Studies Centre.<br />
Diversify funding sources and increase funds raised through advancement activities<br />
A significant increase in fundraising activity across the <strong>University</strong> occurred during <strong>2007</strong>, giuded by the Advancement Office,<br />
which regularly engaged leading international advancement specialists to run training sessions. A new Future Generation<br />
Scholarships Trust achieved donations <strong>of</strong> over $220,000. Results from the <strong>Annual</strong> Appeal continued to grow, both in terms <strong>of</strong><br />
number <strong>of</strong> donors and amount raised. Membership <strong>of</strong> the Chancellor’s Circle grew by 250 per cent to 730.The <strong>University</strong> Fund<br />
raised $744,728 (13 per cent more than last year).The Baker Foundation announced $2.5 million to endow a Chair in Physical<br />
Biosciences. The <strong>University</strong> published the inaugural Report to Our Donors and commenced planning a Campaign for <strong>Melbourne</strong>,<br />
designed to raise funds from private sources.<br />
