is a multidisciplinary research centre,<br />
specialising in medical, agricultural and<br />

PETER McPhee<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Peter McPhee, previously<br />
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic),<br />
was appointed <strong>Melbourne</strong>’s inaugural<br />
Provost in <strong>2007</strong>.<br />
The Office <strong>of</strong> the Provost has been<br />
established to provide the <strong>University</strong>wide<br />
oversight <strong>of</strong> course planning and<br />
delivery necessary on introduction<br />
<strong>of</strong> the <strong>Melbourne</strong> Model. It fosters<br />
collaboration across the <strong>University</strong>,<br />
managing changes in academic policies<br />
and practices that affect the <strong>University</strong><br />
as a whole and ensuring that high<br />
quality, consistent support services are<br />
provided to students. The Provost is the<br />
standing deputy to the Vice-Chancellor.<br />
In <strong>2007</strong> the Provost had particular<br />
responsibilities for implementation <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>University</strong>’s new <strong>Melbourne</strong> Model<br />
curriculum structure.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor McPhee represented the<br />
<strong>University</strong> in a wide range <strong>of</strong> forums<br />
through <strong>2007</strong>, communicating the<br />
features and educational benefits <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>Melbourne</strong> Model to community<br />
groups including media representatives,<br />
secondary schools, parents <strong>of</strong><br />
prospective students, local and<br />
overseas alumni, recruitment agents,<br />
and international universities.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor McPhee is also Chair <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Victorian Curriculum and Assessment<br />
Authority Board.<br />
