The cover aggregate shall be spread at a rate approved by the Engineer. Generally <strong>for</strong> 7mm nominal<br />

aggregate the application rate will be 110m 2 /m 3 .<br />

After the completed base course has been approved <strong>and</strong> any deficiencies corrected it shall be<br />

broomed clean <strong>of</strong> all loose materials <strong>and</strong> dust without damaging the surface.<br />

Immediately be<strong>for</strong>e the application <strong>of</strong> a bitumen emulsion binder, the base course shall be slightly<br />

dampened to ensure proper penetration <strong>and</strong> coverage.<br />

R4.2.2 Final Seal<br />

The grade <strong>and</strong> application rate <strong>of</strong> the binder shall be in accordance with the appropriate seal design<br />

<strong>and</strong> confirmed by the Contractor after inspection <strong>of</strong> the completed primer seal.<br />

Generally the binder will be hot bitumen fluxed with 1% diesel fuel <strong>and</strong> contain 0.1% adhesion adent.<br />

Generally the application rate will be 1.50 l/m5.<br />

The cover aggregate shall be spread at a rate approved by the Engineer. Generally <strong>for</strong> 14mm<br />

nominate aggregate the application rate will be 80m5/m;.<br />

Prior to sealing, the primer seal shall be broomed clean <strong>of</strong> all loose materials <strong>and</strong> any defects or<br />

irregularities corrected to the satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the Engineer.<br />

R4.2.3 Two Coat Bitumen Emulsion Seal<br />

The grade <strong>and</strong> application rate <strong>of</strong> the binder shall be inaccordance with the appropriate seal design<br />

<strong>and</strong> confirmed by the Contractor after the inspection <strong>of</strong> the completed base course. Generally the<br />

binder will be Cationic RS.1<br />

Generally the application rate <strong>for</strong> the first coat will be 1.1 l/m5 <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong> the second coat will be 1.9 l/m5.<br />

The cover aggregate shall be spread immediately following application <strong>of</strong> the binder. Generally the<br />

first coat will be 14mm aggregate at an application rate <strong>of</strong> 80m5/m; <strong>and</strong> the second coat will be 7mm<br />

aggregate at an application rate <strong>of</strong> 110m5/m;.<br />

After the completed base course has been approved <strong>and</strong> any deficiencies corrected it shall be<br />

broomed clean <strong>of</strong> all loose materials <strong>and</strong> dust without damaging the surface.<br />

Immediately be<strong>for</strong>e the application <strong>of</strong> the binder the base course shall be slightly dampened to ensure<br />

The first coat shall be rolled <strong>and</strong> lightly drag broomed <strong>and</strong> the emulsion allowed to >break= be<strong>for</strong>e the<br />

second coat is applied. Both coats shall be completed in the same establishment.<br />

R4.2.4 Spraying<br />

The binder shall be sprayed directly from a spraying unit having a current test certificate issued by<br />

Main Roads Western Australia.<br />
