Abuse & Family Violence<br />
Examine the complex factors and conditions that contribute to various<br />
forms of abusive situations within the family. Violence within partner<br />
relationships and the resulting impact on the child will be addressed.<br />
Explore the professional roles with respect to prevention and intervention,<br />
current community response initiatives, methods of helping<br />
individuals develop conflict resolution skills for replacing dysfunctional<br />
patterns.<br />

Accessibility Legislation & Application<br />
Students learn the fundamental concepts of accessibility with specific<br />
reference to legislation in Ontario. The implications and requirements<br />
of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the<br />
Ontarians with Disabilities Act are explored. Topics include the various<br />
barriers that prevent accessibility, financial considerations towards full<br />
inclusion as well as real life scenarios which illustrate compliance. The<br />
student will explore the differing accessibility needs of organizations and<br />
apply the accessibility standards to these settings.<br />

and social services that operate within and adjacent to the criminal<br />
justice system. The issues, trends, and legislations that impact on<br />
Community Social Services will be examined. The major focus of this<br />
course is on a 40-hour hands-on study of these processes within your<br />
own community.<br />
