Abuse & Family Violence
Examine the complex factors and conditions that contribute to various
forms of abusive situations within the family. Violence within partner
relationships and the resulting impact on the child will be addressed.
Explore the professional roles with respect to prevention and intervention,
current community response initiatives, methods of helping
individuals develop conflict resolution skills for replacing dysfunctional
patterns.

Accessibility Legislation & Application
Students learn the fundamental concepts of accessibility with specific
reference to legislation in Ontario. The implications and requirements
of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the
Ontarians with Disabilities Act are explored. Topics include the various
barriers that prevent accessibility, financial considerations towards full
inclusion as well as real life scenarios which illustrate compliance. The
student will explore the differing accessibility needs of organizations and
apply the accessibility standards to these settings.

skills essential to successful instruction. This is specifically designed for
teachers and trainers in all fields who present information to adults.

Gain an overview of the processes involved in assessing and evaluating
learners by exploring a variety of evaluation methods. You will be
encouraged to evaluate your own practice as a teacher or trainer in your
environment. Pre-requisite: Adult Learning SOCI 109.

Explore the structure and administration of community organizations
and social services that operate within and adjacent to the criminal
justice system. The issues, trends, and legislations that impact on
Community Social Services will be examined. The major focus of this
course is on a 40-hour hands-on study of these processes within your
own community.

Curriculum Development
Learn how to develop a systematic approach to curriculum development
based on a training and education model. Develop needs assessments,
learning outcomes, course outlines, lesson plans with specific instructional
techniques, marking systems, integration of planning, learning
styles awareness, instructional techniques and course assessment and
evaluation methodologies. Pre-requisite: Adult Learning SOCI 109.

Understanding people and being able to work with them, no matter
what type of people they are, is one of the major keys to management
and life success. Learn to identify and cope with some of the most
difficult behavior you may encounter. Learn to recognize personality
styles, establish rapport, and use body language, including matching
and mirroring techniques.
