FRENCH Conversational French - Level 1 This is an introductory course for those with little or no experience interested in learning to communicate at a basic level in the French language. Emphasis is placed on dynamic application of the language in the classroom through dialogues built on the vocabulary and the grammar covered in the course. Besides improving your speaking skills, you will engage through listening to, reading and writing everyday expressions, basic phrases and material related to topics such as: greetings, introductions, work, school and shopping. Pre-requisite: Everyday German 1 LANG 67 $405.55 Online, starts Sep 6 Everyday German 3 At this level you will explore topics like work, school, leisure etc. in a fully interactive and engaging online language learning environment that continues to enhance speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You will be able to deal with most situations when travelling in an area where German is spoken, and will be able to produce connected text on the specified topics. Additional levels of this program will be available in upcoming semesters. Pre-requisite: Everyday German 2 LANG 68 $405.55 Online, starts Sep 6 54 American Sign Language (ASL) Certificate – IN-CLASS Is This for You? Professionals and families in contact with signing deaf people, or any individual interested in learning a new language will benefit from classes taught by culturally deaf instructors. Certificate Highlights: These popular courses are offered in partnership with The Canadian Hearing Society and are highly endorsed by the deaf community. All courses are based on the Signing Naturally Curriculum, which teaches the linguistic principles of ASL, and touch on the culture of the deaf community. A certificate will be granted upon completion of all Level 1 and Level 2 ASL courses. Course fee does not include books and tapes required for this course. One set of DVDs are used for each course. LANG 9 $244.44 Ptbo (Sutherland) Tue, Sep 24 – Dec 10 6:30pm – 9:30pm Signing Naturally 201 While level one introduced language concepts related to people, places and things within the immediate environment, level two encourages you to talk about people in a more abstract way and about the environment outside the classroom. You will also learn to narrate events that occurred in the past. Astronomy This introduction to the study of all that exists beyond our planet examines the characteristics of the bodies of the Solar System and presents interesting information about the planets and their moons. We also examine stars, nebulae and galaxies. SCIE 143 $375.55 Online, starts Sep 6 Beekeeping Workshop Keeping bees is a great way to explore nature. These social insects pollinate plants and collect nectar. In this informative workshop you will learn about nutrition, candle making, honey collection and apiary management.
