Canadian Firearm Safety (PAL)<br />
For those who do not require the Hunter Safety Certification, this<br />
course includes the training and exam required to apply for the Firearm<br />
Possession and Acquisition License. It includes basic firearm parts,<br />
care, transportation, use, and storage of non-restricted firearms, and<br />
rules and regulations surrounding firearms. 100% attendance is<br />
mandatory. Equipment is supplied.<br />

Successful completion of this course, including one practical and two<br />
written examinations will enable you to apply for both the Hunting<br />
Safety Certification and the Firearm Possession and Acquisition License.<br />
Upon application approval, you may purchase/possess a non-restricted<br />
firearm and ammunition. Gain an understanding of basic firearm parts,<br />
care, transportation and storage of non-restricted firearms, hunting trip<br />
preparation, hunting guidelines and ethics, and rules and regulations<br />
surrounding firearms and hunting. The practical exam is scheduled<br />
Saturday evening following regular class hours. Both written exams<br />
are completed at the end of the day on Sunday. 100% attendance is<br />

Chainsaw Operator<br />
Acquire the knowledge and basic skills to handle a chainsaw safely,<br />
fell trees properly and adopt safe practices. Based on the competency<br />
standards set by the Ministry of Training, <strong>College</strong>s and Universities<br />
and developed by the Workplace Safety North, this course will teach<br />
you proper chainsaw use, maintenance and sharpening, and safety<br />
techniques for chainsaw handling before we spend two days in the<br />
bush (off-site) practising these techniques with an emphasis on safety<br />
methods. You must provide your own working chainsaw, supplies, and<br />
safety equipment and be physically fit to take this course. Additionally,<br />
you must be 19 years of age or older and/or a high school graduate. For<br />

The balance between protection of the environment and trail use is a<br />
delicate one to maintain. The basic understanding of ecology combined<br />
with key principles for sustainable trails using case studies and<br />
examples will provide the basis for effective trail planning and design.<br />
As well, practical ideas as to how to decommission trails and rehabilitate<br />
trails will be examined.<br />

Suitable for those working or adventuring outdoors, this basic orientation<br />

use a GPS unit and map together off-trail, and how to avoid getting lost<br />
in the bush. Required equipment: a mirrored compass with a declination<br />
setting, a wristwatch, writing materials, a water bottle, lunch, and<br />
suitable attire for a day out of doors. A GPS unit will be made available<br />
to you for this session or you can bring your own. You will be certified to<br />
