62 By-Law Enforcement<br />
Gain a clear understanding of how municipal bylaws are generated,<br />
passed and enforced by municipal governments. Municipal statutes,<br />
such as zoning bylaws, animal control bylaws and licensing are studied.<br />
You also learn about preparing for court in regard to offences against<br />
municipal codes and the importance of good note taking. We also<br />
explore the importance of bylaws and municipal investigations.<br />
Criminal Psychology – Psychopathic Minds<br />
Explore how and why some individuals become criminals and why some<br />
actually become killers, stalkers, rapists and criminals. We examine the<br />
latest techniques used in criminal profiling and questioning. Note: for<br />
a more in-depth understanding of the subject, we recommend taking<br />
Abnormal Psychology and/or Introduction to Psychology before taking<br />
this course.<br />

Canadian Wildland Firefighters Exchange Fitness Standard<br />
To fight forest fires safely and effectively, avoid injuries and recover<br />
rapidly, initial attack forest fire fighters must have suitable levels of<br />
aerobic fitness, muscular strength and muscular endurance. WFX-FIT is<br />
a fitness standard for the exchange of Type 1 firefighters across Canada.<br />
It includes performing a continuous circuit that involves carrying a<br />
medium pump on the back for 160 m while traversing a 35 degree<br />
ramp every 20 m, carrying a medium pump in hands 80 m without<br />
traversing the ramp, picking up and carrying an Ontario hose pack<br />
(containing 4 lengths of hose) on the back for 1 km while traversing the<br />
ramp every 20 m, then dragging a weighted sled 80 m on level ground<br />
to simulate advancing charged hose. NOTE: WFX-FIT is required for<br />
anyone wishing to gain employment as front-line initial attack fire fighter.<br />

Criminal and Civil Law<br />
Learn to analyze the elements of an offence, to classify offences and<br />
to identify possible defences in criminal cases. You will also gain the<br />
ability to analyze the rights and obligations of citizens involving areas<br />
of civil law and recognize the responsibilities and limitations of citizens<br />
and police officers in light of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. This<br />
course will help you develop legal research and analysis skills to locate,<br />
interpret and apply statue and case law.<br />

Criminology<br />
Examine various theoretical explanations of criminal behaviour including<br />
the sociological, biological and psychological perspectives. The reality of<br />
crime in Canada including victimology is examined through crime statistics<br />
as are the correlation’s of criminal behaviour. The impact of theory<br />
on the development and effectiveness of the criminal justice system is<br />
discussed with emphasis on future trends within the system.<br />

Cults and Terrorism<br />
Focus on conformity issues surrounding religious fundamentalism,<br />
sects, cults, and terrorist groups. We examine the reasons why people<br />
join, and why they may have a difficult time leaving, as well as society’s<br />
contributions to supporting cultic groups. Learn to develop strategies<br />
for protecting individuals and vulnerable populations from cultic and<br />
terrorist activity.<br />
