SECURITY, LAW AND EMERGENCY SERVICES 62 By-Law Enforcement Gain a clear understanding of how municipal bylaws are generated, passed and enforced by municipal governments. Municipal statutes, such as zoning bylaws, animal control bylaws and licensing are studied. You also learn about preparing for court in regard to offences against municipal codes and the importance of good note taking. We also explore the importance of bylaws and municipal investigations. Criminal Psychology – Psychopathic Minds Explore how and why some individuals become criminals and why some actually become killers, stalkers, rapists and criminals. WFX-FIT is a fitness standard for the exchange of Type 1 firefighters across Canada. It includes performing a continuous circuit that involves carrying a medium pump on the back for 160 m while traversing a 35 degree ramp every 20 m, carrying a medium pump in hands 80 m without traversing the ramp, picking up and carrying an Ontario hose pack (containing 4 lengths of hose) on the back for 1 km while traversing the ramp every 20 m, then dragging a weighted sled 80 m on level ground to simulate advancing charged hose. NOTE: WFX-FIT is required for anyone wishing to gain employment as front-line initial attack fire fighter. The development of these skills is a long process of continual education and practice which benefit greatly by having a solid foundation to work from. While other courses deal directly with individual, practical skills such as the collection of evidence or interview and interrogation methods, this course will provide the student with the fundamental process of investigation. The techniques taught will tie together the individual skills so that the student can perform a cohesive investigation. Examine historical and social perspectives of violence against women; issues of power and authority within a feminist theoretical framework; different forms of violence against women, such as sexual violence and femicide; and women’s varied experiences of violence (as impacted by race, class, sexual orientation, ability and age). Through a combination of case studies, literature and media analysis, group activities and discussion, and community research students learn how to support women victims of violence, to assess women for risk of violence, to recommend personal safety plans, and to best advocate for appropriate and needed services.
