‘There are many definitions of design but
the important one for me is that design is
a human-focused process... When you start
with a human understanding, see problems,
make new solutions and try again, you find
a number of pleasant outcomes. You find
people like what you have made and use
it more. You find new ways of solving
old problems.
This is not designing for specific
disability. It’s about design for inclusion of
all abilities. From the remote control to the
mobile phone, the hands-free agenda, driven
through the needs of those with different
requirements to the majority, creates benefit
for all. The world is easier to see, hear and
interact with thanks to the innovations
developed by responding to disability first.’

and were grilled by the audience in the
question-and-answer session that followed.

exhibition of the prototypes developed for
the DBA Design Challenge that detailed the
design outputs.
