OVERVIEW
The 2010 PhD program
The 2010 Ph.D. program selected 6
students; 5 of them being already at
work between October 2010 and
February 2011. In Appendix 9, one can
find their name, hosting laboratories, as
well as the subject and starting date of
their thesis.
The 6 PhD students selected in 2010
have all been educated in Europe - which
differs with most of the previous PhD
students and post-doctoral fellows who
joined the Nanosciences Foundation via
the other three different channels: as
part of a Chair of Excellence project, as
part of a RTRA project or in the frame of
the ‘fil de l’eau’ recruitment (ended in
2009).
Both 2010 and 2011 programs will make
Europe strongly dominant. For European
applicants, CV data are certainly more
reliable and even checkable via networks
involving one or another member
belonging to the extended management
of the Nanosciences Foundation. The oral
presentations of the candidates allow
selecting those who are deeply involved
in their PhD subjects.
The 2011 PhD program
The first session of the 2011 PhD
program is extremely competitive since
22 applications were received. One may
consider the growing number of highquality
applications as a sign that the
Nanosciences PhD support is slowly
getting known and searched by its
potential beneficiaries.
The Steering Committee decided on a
short-list of 8 outstanding applicants
coming from Germany (3), Spain (1),
Russia (2), Brazil (1), and India - with a
long presence in Europe (1).
On May 18 th , 2011 auditions will take
place in order to select 2 or 3 final
laureates.
In contrast with the world map displaying the Chairs of Excellence’s University of
origin, this map identifies Asiatic and European countries as main sources of PhD
students for the Foundation.
