PHIL 310 Reformational Philosophy (3)<br />
Varies<br />
This course examines the Kuyperian philosophical tradition. Special emphasis is placed on the<br />
distinctive Reformed <strong>Christian</strong> philosophy of Herman Dooyeweerd and the development of the<br />
notion of worldview and <strong>Christian</strong> cultural engagement. The course will cover the writings of<br />
Abraham Kuyper, Dooyeweerd, and some of the more recent scholars working in this tradition.<br />
Prerequisites: Philosophy 101 and 102 (or 108).<br />
PHIL 311 Philosophical Theology (3)<br />
Varies<br />
This course studies philosophical treatments of theological doctrines. It may cover the nature,<br />
attributes, and knowability of God; an examination of the relation between philosophy and<br />
theology; and other metaphysical or epistemological assumptions of the <strong>Christian</strong> faith. This<br />
course is identical to Theology 311. Prerequisites: Philosophy 101 and 102 (or 108).<br />
PHIL 321 Existentialism and Phenomenology (3)<br />

This course acquaints the student with the work of prominent contemporary philosophers in<br />
the tradition of existentialism and phenomenology. A major emphasis is on critical exposition of<br />
selected texts. Prerequisites: Philosophy 101 and 102 (or 108).<br />
PHIL 322 Analytic Philosophy (3)<br />

This course studies the work of prominent contemporary philosophers in the Anglo-American<br />
traditions of positivism, post-positivism and pragmatism. A major emphasis is on critical<br />
exposition of selected texts. Prerequisites: Philosophy 101 and 102 (or 108).<br />
PHIL 330 Ethics (3)<br />
Varies<br />
This course examines traditional ethical theories and seeks to develop a philosophical framework<br />
within which <strong>Christian</strong>s can address contemporary moral issues. Prerequisites: Philosophy 101<br />
and 102 (or 108).<br />
PHIL 331 Aesthetics (3)<br />
Fall<br />
Students explore the fundamental questions concerning art and literature and their place in life,<br />
with emphasis upon the possibilities of a <strong>Christian</strong> position in aesthetic experience and reflection.<br />
This course is identical to Art 331. Prerequisites: Philosophy 101 and 102 (or 108).<br />
PHIL 335 Calvinistic Tradition (3)<br />
Spring<br />
Students study significant philosophical contributions in the work of thinkers in the Calvinistic<br />
tradition from the 17th century to the present with a critical exposition of selected texts. This<br />
course is identical to Theology 335.<br />
PHIL 351 Theories of Society (3)<br />
Fall, Odd<br />
This course is an intensive study of the theories and methodology of the major schools of social<br />
thought with special emphasis on theoretical developments in contemporary sociology in Europe<br />
and North America. Prerequisite: Sociology 121. This course is identical to Sociology 351.<br />
