Placement Credit Policy: Students may be eligible for placement credits on condition that<br />
they enroll for the Spanish course into which they were placed and earn a grade of B or better.<br />
Placement credits are available only for Spanish 201 (if placed into 202) or 201-202 (if placed<br />
into a 300 level course). Transfer students with college-level Spanish on their transcripts are not<br />
eligible for credits by placement.<br />
The Spanish major consists of 40 hours:<br />
Spanish 201, 202, 302, 315, 400, 451;<br />
Semester in Spain 351 (or 401)<br />
One from: Spanish 319, Semester in Spain 306, 311, 312, 408<br />
*Three from: Spanish 317, 365, 366, 368, Semester in Spain 304, 355, 356, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407;<br />
* Must take at least one course from Spanish and one from Semester in Spain.<br />
Advanced Spanish electives, as needed to reach 40 hours<br />
The Spanish education major consists of 41 hours:<br />
Spanish 201, 202, 302, 315, 380, 451;<br />
Semester in Spain 351 (or 401);<br />
One from: Spanish 319, Semester in Spain 306, 311, 312, 408;<br />
*Three from: Spanish 317, 365, 366, 368, Semester in Spain 304, 355, 356, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407;<br />
* Must take at least one course from Spanish and one from Semester in Spain.<br />
Advanced Spanish elective (as needed to reach 41 hours).<br />
Students with a teaching major in Spanish education will minor in education and follow<br />
the special program (K-12) education minor course requirements as listed in the education<br />
department section of the <strong>catalog</strong>.<br />
The Spanish minor consists of 18 hours:<br />
Spanish 201, 202, 302;<br />
Spanish electives 300-level or higher (9 hours)<br />
Students who attend SIS (optional for minors) would apply the intermediate sequence or four advanced<br />
courses at SIS towards the minor, plus one 300-level elective from the Spanish program on campus.<br />
Students pursuing a minor to receive a teaching endorsement for K-12 or Secondary Education<br />
must also complete Spanish 380 Methods of Teaching Spanish (3) and additional elective hours to<br />
reach 24 semester hours in Spanish.<br />
