Mathematics - 3 hours selected from Mathematics 103, 109, 110, 111, 112, 141, 151, and 210.<br />
Most majors fulfill this requirement through a specific math course. Please see the academic<br />
department major for required math courses. Prior to enrolling in any of these mathematics<br />
classes, students should have successfully completed a minimum of three years of <strong>College</strong><br />
Preparatory mathematics courses or the equivalent; some courses have additional course<br />
prerequisites. See individual course descriptions for details.<br />
Natural Science - 6 hours in natural science courses that include laboratory work. One course<br />
must be in biology and the other must be in the physical sciences.<br />
1. At least 3 hours from a course in biology with a lab. Biology 100, 101, and 102 are designed<br />
to meet this requirement for non-science majors, but students may select from any of the<br />
laboratory biology courses to fulfill this requirement.<br />
2. At least 3 hours from a course in physical science with a lab. Chemistry 100 and Physics 101<br />
are designed to meet this requirement for non- science majors, but students may select from<br />
any laboratory chemistry or physics courses to meet the physical science requirement.<br />
Note: Geology 101 does not fulfill the physical science requirement.<br />
Social Science - 3 hours selected from Economics 121, Political Science 121, Psychology 121 or<br />
123, and Sociology 121.<br />
Fine Arts - 3 hours in fine arts courses selected from Art 103, Chicago Semester 301,<br />
Communication Arts 125, 225, or 234, Education 201, or Music 111; OR 6 hours from the<br />
following options:<br />
1. 6 hours in Music 130 and/or 131, 6 hours in Music 132, or 6 hours in Music 134;<br />
Note: A maximum of 10 hours of applied music or ensemble courses may be applied toward<br />
graduation except for music majors and minors;<br />
2. 6 hours of studio art courses;<br />
3. 6 hours in Communication Arts 226;<br />
4. 6 hours of any combination of 2 or more performance ensembles in music, Comm 226,<br />
or studio fine art.<br />
Physical Wellness - 1 hour selected from Physical Education 110 or 112<br />
Cross-Cultural Studies- 6 hours in cross-cultural studies: These courses are designed to serve<br />
students from all majors and programs. They offer a general understanding of the discipline<br />
in which the course is taught and give insights into societal structures and the development of<br />
cultures that are not fundamentally western. Choose one of the following:<br />
1. 6 hours from: Art 230, Business 337, Chicago Semester 302, Communication Arts 250,<br />
Criminal Justice 201, Economics 225, English 354, Geography 201, History 261, 281, 286, or<br />
383, Music 252, Political Science 270, Psychology 252, Sociology 252 or 254, Theology 242, or 306<br />
2. one full year of college-level modern language study<br />
3. one semester overseas<br />
