We have heard with
astonishment and considerable
concern that the Manhattan
Yacht Club might have to
surrender management of the
North Cove. At risk will
presumably be the yachting
activities, which you and your
fellow club members have built
up so successfully, not least the
Dennis Conner International
Yacht Club Challenge which is a
fantastic and probably unique
event in the international
yachting calendar. As a former
Olympian and life-long
competitive sailor I can attest to
the uniqueness of the race
series—obviously the fruit of
many years of hard work. You
have to impress on the
authorities in charge that only
the Manhattan Yacht Club can
keep this event alive and that it
would be a great loss for
Manhattan and the
international sailing community
if it would cease to exist.
Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge
The Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge is the harbor’s
biggest international competition. The purpose of the regatta is to
“promote international goodwill through friendly competition.”
The Patron of the Challenge is Dennis Conner, one of the most famous
sailors in the world. By lending his name and credibility to this event, he
has helped create another New York Harbor institution.

Nord Deutscher Regata Verein
This event brings together teams from around the world for 3 days of
competition and 4 days of social events. This past summer, 19 teams
representing 14 nations participated. The competitors were:
Cercle de la Voile de la Société Nautique de Genève (Switzerland)
Club Universitario de Buenos Aires (Argentina) – 2 Teams
Fenerbahce Sailing Club "Team Goblin" (Turkey)
