There is rust on the main valve providing service to the marina on the
south side. This valve needs to be replaced. We understand that this
value is owned and maintained by the City and that they need to do the
replacement. If we are permitted to replace, then we would like to do so.
Thousands of New Yorkers come
downtown to the Battery Park
area specifically because your
Sailing Club offers 1) access to
the Harbor 2) educational
classes on safe boating skills 3)
activities for students from all
economic backgrounds 4)
hosting of major international
sailing events and there are
many more reasons. The
Battery Park region is enriched
by having a locally owned,
responsive and growing
business that is fully and only
invested in the livelihood of this
community.
The water pipes coming from the main valve and feeding the marina are
all high quality copper and oxidation of the copper is natural. This is
different from corrosion which indicates a chemical or electrical process
of degradation. We have not observed any corrosion and would like to
get more details from the contractor.
If any sections of the water piping are not currently insulated, our
company will insulate them in Jan 2015. All of the insulation went
underwater during Hurricane Sandy and we have already replaced the
sections we felt were most important.
