All of the paints we use for the marina railings are low-off
gassing models and we use the same paints as Battery Park City
Parks Conservancy which is known for their environmental
consciousness.
I hope BPCA recognizes your
commitment to the city and
neighborhood in restoring North
Cove as the center of sailing in
New York Harbor. Under your
management, not only has our
sailing club hosted a number of
major events, including major
transatlantic races, but we have
also begun the International
Yacht Club Challenge and
hosted sailors from across the
world. The race series
throughout the summer also
seems to grow more popular
each year with large
corporations as well as many
members of the sailing club.
Aside from the environment
that has been created, the
sailing school that has
developed under your
management is an exceptional
asset for the community. It
provides low-cost access to an
exceptional sailing program and
allows people—both children
and adults alike—to learn how
to sail without owning their own
boat.

We do not have data showing incremental costs of each specific step.
Nor do we believe that there is much incremental cost. Energy reduction
programs such as installing solar panels and LED lights pays for
themselves by less electricity usage over the long term. The extra costs
of thicker insulation means we can operate without air conditioning and
save most electrical costs.
Not running a pressure washer to clean a quay means the dock master
will have to work a little longer. But at the same time, this creates a
better environment than having the noise and pollution of the pressure
washer around the marina. And one of our dock master’s roles is to
create a better environment.
