Chapter 3 – Existing Conditions<br />

A short survey distributed to attendees captured the following information:<br />

Question #1: What type <strong>of</strong> bicycle facilities do you prefer<br />

Respondents were instructed to choose up to two <strong>of</strong> the options shown in Table 3-7. The most popular<br />

facility types were bike lanes, bike paths, and bike routes/bike boulevards, respectively.<br />

Question #2: Please list up to five locations where you would like to see<br />

bicycle parking<br />

Participants suggested a total <strong>of</strong> 52 places for bicycle parking, ranging from specific businesses and<br />

intersections to entire <strong>City</strong> Council districts. Many locations were mentioned more than once. Downtown<br />

<strong>Pomona</strong> and locations within it were mentioned 26 times. The North <strong>Pomona</strong> Metrolink station and the<br />

<strong>Pomona</strong> Transit Center were mentioned 11 times. Participants described a need for bicycle parking at<br />

local and regional destinations including parks, Cal Poly <strong>Pomona</strong>, the Fairplex and public facilities such as<br />

post <strong>of</strong>fices and libraries. Major transportation corridors were also a key location for bicycle parking.<br />

Garey Avenue and intersections along it were mentioned 13 times. Other frequently mentioned corridors<br />

include White Avenue (6 times), 2nd Street (6 times) and Holt Avenue (3 times). These responses will<br />

inform the development <strong>of</strong> a bicycle parking pilot program for installing bicycle racks at <strong>City</strong>-owned<br />

facilities and within the <strong>City</strong>-owned public right-<strong>of</strong>-way.<br />
