Natural light is in the abundance in the house
altitude differences in the turf. Therefore, the swimming
pool is the only section that remained at street level,
while the upper and ground floor are actually at midlevel
opposed to it. The space organization develops in
clear horizontal division within the ground floor, which
has a purpose of gathering people, as well as the private
upper floor of the house that features bedrooms
and bathrooms. The two storeys communicate with a
partly opened staircase.
Each of the main rooms in Suntro House provides a
unique, fluid flow with the accompanying outdoor section,
primarily due to the large glass surfaces and a
concrete floor, which effortlessly extends from indoors
to open areas.
Looking at its front side, the object appears slender
and light thanks to being conformed by only one volume
that floats over the living room, which can be
seen through glass surfaces. By changing the point of
perspective, the perception changes as well, due to
the playful concept of volume and empty spaces that
can be seen at all levels. The continuation of pure design
can be noticed in the decoration of the interior
itself that literally follows basic architectonic pointers of
purity, light and the concept of volume.
Jorge Hernandez de la Garza was born in Mexico
in 1977. He graduated architecture at La Salle University
in Mexico, and after that studied design
in London. In 2005, he appeared for the first time
among the finalists of the “Icons of design” award
by magazine Architectural Digest, due to his project
of house Los Amates. He won that same award a
year later for the project of the “Vladimir Kaspe”
cultural centre, and he was also among the finalists
for the national award for designing the interior of
the “Comex” showroom. He won the Merit Award
for the pre-history museum Gyeonggi-do in Korea.
Studio JHG Jorge Hernandez de la Garza was
founded in 2007, and Suntro House was declared
the house of the month in July at the web portal of
World Architecture News.
