8 MINUTES OF THE 1997 SYNOD OF THE
I. That the order of business and hours of meeting stated in the Dock
accepted as the agenda for this meeting of Synod.
2. That the following be referred to the Nominating Committee:
a. Those to whom letters of remembrance should be sent (1974 Minutes,
P. 60);
b. Those to be elected tofill vacancies on Synod's boards and permanent
committees.

The Report of the Business of Synod Committee on Communications to
Synod was taken up. Items 1 -7 were adopted and are as follows:
Report of the Business of Synod Committee on Communications
Communication 97-1: Petition for Westminster Evangelical Ministries to be
place under the jurisdiction of the Synod.
Recommendation # 1: that Communication 97-1 be referred to the Board of
Education and Publication, to report to the Synod of 1998, and to address two
issues: 1) whether the Westminster Evangelistic Ministries should be recognized as
a ministry of the Synod of the RPCNA, and 2) if so, whether WEM should be
placed under the administrative oversight of the E « P Board. (Note:if the E at P
Board is divided as outlined in their report, this matter would be referred to the
new Board of Publications.)
Communication 97-2: Removal of a Paragraph from the Directory for Church
Government.
Recommendation # 2: The Business of Synod Committee has recognized
problems in the handling of overtures and is working on ways to clarify our
practices to allow for them to be handled more smoothly. In the meantime, this
paper has come to the court andis ruled to be in order by the Business of Synod
Committee. Therefore, the Business of Synod Committee recommends that
Communication 97-2 be referred to the Judicial Committee.
Communication 97-3: Petition for a Psalter Revision Committee.
Recommendation # 3: that Communication 97-3 be referred to a special
committee appointed by the Moderator to report to this meeting of Synod.
Communication 97-4: Petition to Declare Ordination Queries Part of the
Constitution.
Recommendation ft 4: that Communication 97-4 be referred to the Judicial
Committee.
Communication 97-5: Petition for Judicial Interpretation
Recommendation # 5: that Communication 97-5 be returned to the Great
Lakes/Gulf Presbytery on the following grounds: 1) Synod has requested that
study on issues brought before Synod be completed as much as possible by the
