54 MINUTES OF THE 1997 SYNOD OF THE The report of the Reformation Translation Fellowship was taken up, received, and appears in Appendix B. The report of the Committee on Revitalization of Declining Congregations was taken up. The report was discussed. Items 1-5 were adopted. Item 6 was referred to the Nominating Committee. In keeping with item 1 Andy McCracken addressed the court for the Bloomington Session. Following announcements Pastor Takiura informed Synod of the death of a member of his congregation. Pastor Takiura had been his roommate in the hospital and God used that contact to bring him to faith. Ed Blackwood directed Synod in a time of prayer for the financial ministry of the church. The delegates joined in small groups to pray and concluded the prayer time with the singing of Psalm 81B, St. 7. Synod took recess at 12:15 p.m. TUESDAY JULY 15, 1997, 1:30 P.M. Synod reconvened at 1:30 p.m. and was led in prayer by J McMillan. The roll was passed. The minutes of the morning session were read and approved as read. The report of the Committee to Revise the Directory for Worship was taken up. Items 1-7 were adopted. The E at P Board was assigned the task of bringing to the 1998 Synod a proposal to implement item 7. Item 8 was ruled out of order by the Moderator. The ruling of the Moderator was challenged and seconded. Synod upheld the ruling of the Moderator. Phil Pockras asked that his dissent to the decision of the Moderator and Court be recorded. The proposed revision to the Directory for Worship was taken up chapter by chapter. The introduction was considered and following 30 minutes of discussion it was returned to the committee. The first chapter was considered. Synod took a fifteen-minute break at 2:45 p.m. Synod returned to business and sang Psalm 95A. Discussion of Chapter 1 of the proposed Directory for Worship continued. The chapter was returned to the committee. Discussion of chapter 2 was taken up. The Moderator asked the former Moderator to take the chair. The chapter was returned to the committee. Rich Johnston directed Synod in the afternoon prayer time. The delegates joined together in small groups to pray for the ministry of worship and concluded by singing Psalm 96B St. 4.
REFORMED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF NORTH AMERICA 55 Following the announcements John McFarland led in prayer as S took recess at 4:00 p.m. TUESDAY, JULY 15, 1997, 7:00 P.M. Synod reconvened at 7:00 p.m. Robert Copeland continued to ser Moderator. He announced three items for prayer: 1) that the Moderator was resting comfortably although it was necessary for him to relinquish the chair for evening session, for health concerns; 2) that Paul Finley has been unable to return to Synod since his presence Saturday evening because of a physical malady that is not fully diagnosed, and; 3) that the surgery on Frances McCracken, wife of J. Paul McCracken, is reported to have gone well and that she is home and doing well. Synod sang Psalm 103A and was led in prayer by Bruce Stewart. The roll was passed The minutes of the afternoon meeting were read and approved as read. The report of the Home Mission Board was made the Order of the Day on Wednesday afternoon following the break unless there is opportunity to consider it earlier. The report of the Foreign Mission Board was taken up. The report was discussed. Item 1 was referred to the Nominating Committee. Items 2 and 3 were referred to the Committee on Finance. Item 4 was referred to the Nominating Committee. Item 5-8 were adopted. In keeping with item 8, Robert Henning addressed the court. The report as a whole was approved and is as follows: FOREIGN MISSION BOARD The members of the Foreign Mission Board are thankful to Almighty God for the privilege of serving Him as He builds His church worldwide! Jesus commanded His disciples to "disciple the nations" and the Reformed Presbyterian Church has taken that command seriously. over the years since organizing here in North America. In 1994 the Board reported with praise the organization of the Trinity Christian Community Fellowship, Larnaca, Cyprus. This graciously came about through the united efforts of Trinity RPC in Ireland and the FMB of the RPCNA. Various Teaching Elders have served for varying time frames since the church's organization. Pastor Bill Sterrett was called by TCCF and accepted the call following completion of over 20 years of ministry in the Kobe area of Japan. The Sterretts are to leave Japan in July, 1997, and move to Cyprus in August. Pastor Sterrett will remain on the pension and health insurance programs of the RPCNA through 1997. Pray with TCCF that the congregation will grow and daughter another congregation in the near future there in Cyprus.
