Possible Control Measures
Visual impact will be minimised through a range of control measures, which may include, but
will not be limited to, those outlined below.
• The construction site will be kept tidy and rubbish free.
• The site will be rehabilitated as soon as possible.
• On completion of work, all vehicles, materials and refuse relating to the works will be
removed.
4.11 Land Use
Existing Situation
The proposed site is on land owned by RailCorp and zoned for the purposes of a railway under
the Sutherland LEP. The land where the new monopole and cabinets are to be situated is not
actively used for any RailCorp activities (e.g. an access route or storage area) and so the
proposal will not affect any existing uses of the land. The immediate neighbouring land uses
include recreational (Como rail bridge pedestrian/bike path) and commercial (Como Marina).
Potential Impacts
The proposal will not affect or alter the current use of the site or the immediate surrounding area
as a rail corridor. It will not have any effects on the use of the neighbouring land.
Possible Control Measures
No specific control measures are required.
4.12 Socio-Economic Effects
Existing Situation
The proposed site is in the Sutherland LGA, which in the 2006 census had a population of
around 205,000. The main employment areas are schools and education, cafes and restaurants
and legal and accounting. The suburb of Como is largely a residential suburb next to the
Georges River.
The Como Marina is located approximately 50 metres from the proposed site and comprises a
number of commercial premises (e.g. a mechanic and cafes). The Como Pleasure Grounds,
Como Pool Complex, St George Rowing Club boathouse and Scylla Reserve are all in the
vicinity. The Como rail bridge has been converted to a pedestrian/bike path which extends from
Oatley down to Como and along Cremona Road.
Residential dwellings are at least 100 metres south-west off Como Parade and Central Avenue
and along Cremona Avenue to the south-east.
