<strong>the</strong> vine dresser’. He is credited for establishing <strong>the</strong> Coptic<br />
calendar and organising <strong>the</strong> fasts and Christian feasts<br />
correctly. He gave <strong>the</strong> church a great service. Try <strong>to</strong> learn<br />
<strong>from</strong> him by serving <strong>the</strong> church with your talents and<br />
abilities, however little. When God blesses <strong>the</strong>m by a <strong>to</strong>uch<br />
<strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holy</strong> Spirit <strong>the</strong>y become great as what happened<br />
with St. Dimitrius who was illiterate at first. “…St. Cyril…”,<br />
who was <strong>the</strong> 24th Coptic patriarch. He was given <strong>the</strong> title<br />
‘<strong>the</strong> great pillar of faith’. Remember his struggle in <strong>the</strong> first<br />
ecumenical council in Ephesus against Nes<strong>to</strong>rius <strong>the</strong> heretic.<br />
Also remember his pure Orthodox teachings which still<br />
enriches and enlivens <strong>the</strong> church. He is <strong>the</strong> greatest teacher<br />
of <strong>the</strong> mystery of Divine incarnation and <strong>the</strong> greatest<br />
defender of <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>rhood of St. Mary <strong>to</strong> Jesus Christ, <strong>the</strong><br />
Incarnate God. It was said about him, "His mind was<br />
marinated in <strong>the</strong> divine books."<br />
“…St. Basil…”, who was <strong>the</strong> archbishop of Caesarea, and<br />
<strong>the</strong> writer of <strong>the</strong> liturgy of St. Basil, which is famous in our<br />
church. He is a distinguished personality in <strong>the</strong> universal<br />
church and a pillar of pillars. “…St. Gregory <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>ologian…”, who was <strong>the</strong> bishop of Sazema. He served<br />
for a while in Constantinople, and wrote many powerful<br />
<strong>the</strong>ological essays. Hence he earned his title, ‘<strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>ologian’. “…St. Gregory <strong>the</strong> miracle performer…”,<br />
who was called as such because of <strong>the</strong> numerous miracles<br />
God performed through him. He was ordained bishop <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
new Caesarea in <strong>the</strong> province of Pontius and was a great,<br />
spiritual man. “…and St. Gregory <strong>the</strong> Armenian…”, he<br />
was <strong>the</strong> most famous Armenian patriarch who was martyred<br />
without blood shed due <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> enormous <strong>to</strong>rturing he faced,<br />
and yet he was as steadfast as a rock.<br />
