So, in <strong>the</strong> Mystery of <strong>the</strong> Pauline for example, he says,<br />
"Grant us and all Your congregation a clear mind, and<br />
understanding, in order <strong>to</strong> know and understand <strong>the</strong><br />
benefit of Your teachings, which are being read <strong>to</strong> us<br />
now" (alluding <strong>to</strong> St. Paul's Epistle).<br />
In <strong>the</strong> Mystery of <strong>the</strong> Gospel, <strong>the</strong> priest prays for <strong>the</strong> sake of<br />
<strong>the</strong> congregation saying, "...make us worthy <strong>to</strong> hear Your<br />
<strong>Holy</strong> Gospel and keep Your commandments, <strong>to</strong> bear fruits<br />
a hundredfold, sixty fold and thirty fold through Jesus<br />
Christ our Lord...", and at <strong>the</strong> end he says, "Your law,<br />
rights, commandments, holy orders, confirm <strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
hearts, let <strong>the</strong>m know <strong>the</strong> power and depth of <strong>the</strong> words<br />
<strong>the</strong>y have heard."<br />
The readings and <strong>the</strong> sermon are rich meals, don't miss <strong>the</strong>m<br />
or ignore listening <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>m. The word of God is <strong>the</strong> light <strong>to</strong><br />
our feet and path, food for our spirits and bodies, as, "Man<br />
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that<br />
proceeds <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> mouth of God" (Mat<strong>the</strong>w 4:4). That is<br />
why <strong>the</strong> Apostle advises us, "...not forsaking <strong>the</strong> assembly<br />
of ourselves <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r, as is <strong>the</strong> manner of some, but<br />
exhorting one ano<strong>the</strong>r, and so much more as you see <strong>the</strong><br />
Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:25).<br />
The Hegumen An<strong>to</strong>nious Ragheb says, "The readings<br />
resemble <strong>the</strong> five loaves of bread and two fish: In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holy</strong><br />
<strong>Liturgy</strong> <strong>the</strong> five chapters of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holy</strong> Bible which we listen <strong>to</strong><br />
: <strong>the</strong> Pauline, Catholicon, Praxis, Psalm and <strong>the</strong> Gospel,<br />
are <strong>the</strong> loaves of grace, while <strong>the</strong> two fish are <strong>the</strong> Sinixarium<br />
and <strong>the</strong> sermon."<br />
