Then <strong>the</strong> congregation responds, "Glory be <strong>to</strong> You O Lord,<br />
Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord bless us, Lord<br />
repose <strong>the</strong>m, Amen." This response is clear in <strong>the</strong> liturgy<br />
book without <strong>the</strong> sentence, "May <strong>the</strong>ir holy blessings be<br />
with us all, Amen."<br />
The Method of Draining <strong>the</strong> Censer after <strong>the</strong><br />
Diptych<br />
After <strong>the</strong> priest places one spoonful of incense in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
censer for those who have departed, <strong>the</strong> deacon takes <strong>the</strong><br />
censer and places it in its designated area within <strong>the</strong><br />
sanctuary so that all <strong>the</strong> incense may rise before <strong>the</strong> Lord<br />
God, within His <strong>Holy</strong> Sanctuary. This incense rises <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r<br />
with <strong>the</strong> prayers mentioned for those souls of His servants<br />
who have departed, so that <strong>the</strong> Lord may grant <strong>the</strong>m mercy<br />
and repose.<br />
The censer stays in its place until all <strong>the</strong> incense within it<br />
rises, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> deacon empties <strong>the</strong> ashes. The censer should<br />
not be emptied while <strong>the</strong> incense is still rising, for <strong>the</strong> incense<br />
signifies mercy for <strong>the</strong> departed before God.<br />
