• Delivery of regional workshop on Approximation Obligations and Accession Negotiation in<br />

Brussels, Belgium (23 – 24 November <strong>2011</strong>).<br />

The workshop agenda has been developed in close collaboration of the project team, and the<br />

European Commission, DG Environment. The lectures has been provided by the representatives<br />

of the EC DG Environment, selected team of experts and former negotiators from the new<br />

Member States (Romania and Lithuania) as well as by the RENA Focal Point from Croatia who<br />

recently closed their negotiation process, the RENA Focal Point from fYR of Macedonia and<br />

representative of the Permanent Delegation of Turkey to the EU. The provided useful information<br />

on the EU institutional structure for negotiations such as the role of the Council, Conference on<br />

accession to the EU, Enlargement Working Group, and the documents, which are considered<br />

during the process. The presence of the EC DG Environment Desk Officers has provided hands<br />

on information on the EU institutional structure for negotiations such as the role of the Council,<br />

Conference on accession to the EU, Enlargement Working Group, documents and which are<br />

considered during the process. In addition the participants have been familiarised with the EC<br />

position towards transitional periods as one of the key elements of the negotiation process. The<br />

main items of the agenda were the following:<br />

1. The enlargement process: main steps and challenges;<br />

2. Enlargement process – Negotiations for Chapter 27;<br />

3. EU Accession negotiations: Institutional challenges for the candidate countries;<br />

4. How to best prepare for the negotiations for Chapter 27 Environment – EU best practice;<br />

5. Preparation of position papers – practicalities;<br />

6. Preparation of implementation plans – practicalities.<br />

Planned activities for the next interim <strong>report</strong>ing period<br />

• As per the Work Plan with the delivery of the two above listed workshops, all activities<br />

planned under the Activity 1.1 have been fully implemented.<br />

Implemented activities during the third interim <strong>report</strong>ing period<br />

• Delivery of the second regional training/workshop on Regulation (EC) 1272/2008<br />

(CLP)/(EC)1907/2006 (REACH). The two days regional workshop has been <strong>org</strong>anised in<br />

Istanbul, Turkey (11 – 12 October <strong>2011</strong>). The main items of the agenda were the following:<br />
