2.9 Working Group 2. Climate Change<br />

Direct communication lines between the RENA WG2 team and DG Climate Action established as<br />

of mid November 2010 greatly improved the effectiveness and efficiency of the process of drafting<br />

the Work Plan for the Climate Working Group. Since November 2010 RENA works closely with<br />

DG Climate Action in implementation of the Work Plan.<br />

WG 2 coordinators at the Annual meeting on 22 February <strong>2011</strong> agreed on the detailed schedule of<br />

events for <strong>2011</strong>. The details were further discussed and agreed on the WG 2 coordinators meeting<br />

held on 12 June <strong>2011</strong> in Bonn, Germany.<br />

The 2 nd Annual meeting of WG 2 Coordinators was held on 18 November <strong>2011</strong>, where the Work<br />

Plan for 2012 was discussed and agreed upon.<br />

Activity 2.1 ReCAP-Regional Climate Change Action Platform<br />

Implemented activities during the third interim <strong>report</strong>ing period<br />

• Delivery of the 2 nd Annual Meeting of WG 2 Coordinators. The meeting was <strong>org</strong>anised in<br />

Tirana, Albania (18 November <strong>2011</strong>).<br />

The main objective of the meeting was to present the implemented activities since the 1 st Annual<br />

Meeting and to reach the agreement on the planned activities in the upcoming period (confirmation<br />

of the selected topics, dates and venues).<br />

• Delivery of the first ReCAP Climate Policy Seminar - Opportunities, benefits and challenges<br />

of EU climate policy and legislation. The event was <strong>org</strong>anised in Skopje, fYR of Macedonia<br />

(02 – 03 February 2012).<br />

The Seminar was focused on the EU climate policy and legislation and their opportunities, benefits<br />

and challenges. The target group of the seminar were national and local authorities, the industrial<br />

sector and civil society <strong>org</strong>anizations. The seminar has been designed in such a way that the first<br />

day targeted climate policies and implementation. The topics of the second day addressed the key<br />

EU climate legislation and the challenges ahead. Key note speakers were: Ms. Laurence Graff<br />

(Head of Unit, DG Clima), Mr. Robert Liddel (Acting Head of EU Delegation Skopje) and Mr.<br />

Abdilaqim Ademi (Minister of Environment and Physical Planning). The following key issues have<br />

been addressed:<br />

1. The EU’s policy to cut the EU's greenhouse emissions by 80% by 2050 (compared with<br />

1990 levels);<br />

2. Further developing low-energy technologies, such as renewable energy sources and electric<br />

vehicles, and investing in low carbon infrastructure that will stimulate growth and help<br />

create new job opportunities.<br />

3. Provision of detailed information on key EU climate legislation, including ETS, MMD,<br />

Renewable targets, GHG from road transport related legislation, inclusion of aviation into<br />

the ETS.<br />
