The effect of nutrition counseling of diabetic children and/or their mothers on
metabolic control indicators regarding glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), triglyceride
(TG), total cholesterol (T-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high
density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were studied in 60 juvenile diabetics aged 8-
18 years. Patients were divided into three groups: MC group (mother and child were
counseled), M group (mother alone was counseled) and C group (child alone was
counseled). Initial diabetes mellitus knowledge, dietary, biochemical and
anthropometric measurements were done at the beginning and at the end of the study.
