The last alarm over the old system was from
box 313, at 9:10 P. M., Sunday, April 4th, for an
incipient fire on Webster Street, West Newton.
E. A. Stover was appointed
superintendent
of the system in 1873,
and was succeeded by
G. W. [Timer, November
21, L874. In 1877, the
position was consolidated
with that of chief of
department, and George
ET. Ellis became
chief
and superintendent.
G. W. ULMER.
When H. L. Bixby became
chief, in February,
1879, he created the position of operator, and
appointed G. W. Ulmer, who was succeeded by
Asa Jewett, August 1, 1884, and W. B. Randlett,
October 1, 1884.
The present employees
are G. G. Perkins, inspector ; Benjamin Merchant
and J. U. Fogwell, linemen.
