see if the town will furnish a steam fire-engine,
and all the necessary apparatus to be used with
it, also a building in which said engine shall he
kept, all to be located at Newton Centre, and to
appropriate money therefor.

The selectmen granted the request of the per
titioners, and March 11th an appropriation of
twenty-five thousand dollars was made therefor
.
An engine similar* to No. 2 was ordered of the
Amoskeag Manufacturing Company of Manchester,
N. H., which was ready for delivery
before the town was ready to receive it, because
of delay in the erection of a station, made
necessary by delay of the city of Boston in deciding
where to locate the line of the Sudbury
River conduit through that village.
