see if the town will furnish a steam fire-engine,<br />

and all the necessary apparatus to be used with<br />

it, also a building in which said engine shall he<br />

kept, all to be located at <strong>Newton</strong> Centre, and to<br />

The selectmen granted the request of the per<br />

titioners, and March 11th an appropriation of<br />

twenty-five thousand dollars was made therefor<br />

An engine similar* to No. 2 was ordered of the<br />

Amoskeag Manufacturing Company of Manchester,<br />

N. H., which was ready for delivery<br />

before the town was ready to receive it, because<br />

of delay in the erection of a station, made<br />

necessary by delay of the city of Boston in deciding<br />

where to locate the line of the Sudbury<br />

River conduit through that village.<br />

At the time Cole's block, <strong>Newton</strong> Corner, was
